Does anybody know what the official line is with the tunnel? The sludge is now coming in through both north- and south-bound carriageways.
Is it sinking, or just leaking?

No way ... there is nothing about it sinking/leaking/whatever !!
The tunnel will be closed at times between two weeks time and christmas, they are puttingin traffic lights on the dunkettle (sp??) roundabout .... problem is the roundabout was built too close to the tunnel first day so problems there.
"The sludge is now coming in through both north- and south-bound carriageways."
It is not .... if you saw sludge, you would have seen blood .... it is not leaking, possibly dirt from trucks but sludge not a chance .... and all this start from an April fools joke  it like people want to live in fear.

At the lowest point in both channels, there is about 5 feet of roadway with fresh sludge oozing up from the outside. If it was dirt being carried in from the road, there would be traces of it on the way in, but there is not. It is on your left as you drive through.
I believe the tunnel is regularily closed to fix leaks.
