Give him a break. He has clearly outlined before that Rosenborg are his love above all.

Comes to Ireland & chooses Shels clearly because they were the most successful recently. Chooses Rosenborg presumably for same reason... I'm sorry but bandwagon jumper if ever there was one...?

I could say the same about you and your team.

He supports a team who are on par with your team (and thats been nice) whats so strange?

Indeed. His choices of team are, well, idiosyncratic, that's all.

Could you indeed say the same, Jorge? Well, go on then, be my guest.

A Norwegian-supporting Belgian with a liking for one/two/several Irish football clubs - north or south, no matter - and you ask me what I think is strange.

And, for the record, you'll have to try better than that if you want to have a dig at me.

Bandwagon jumper ? If that were the case I would not have gone to Tolka but sat in the pub supporting some English club, then I would not spit on the Champions League and G16 whenever possible, and then I'd not support Norway but Brazil or so... By the way, check my list of favourite foreign clubs, you will see the names of Vanspor, Ceuta and such appear ; hardly big clubs, or am I wrong?

"Why support so many teams?" - well, 3: one in my native country, one in the country I lived in for a year, and then Rosenborg. Not that many, isn't it?

By the way, I follow Rosenborg since 11 years now, so they were a true minnow when I first fell in love with them.

By the way, Shels was a coincidence rather than a choice. I got invited to the games, met some nice people and kept going back. It's not like I really picked a team because of reasons other than social, if those people I got friends with happened to support Dublin City then I'd have followed them

I wont be your guest. This thread is about Rosenborg not oppinions on certain teams.

I don't know his full backround but he he must have had something to do with Norway.AFAIK he supports Shels i dont know about several Irish teams.

If i had a dig at You then you must have had one at Gerrit which I don't think you did.

Oh well, everyone thinks what he/she wants. The only that matters to me are the facts. And those are: how can I be a gloryhunter when I research more about Luxembourg football than about English football and when I show more interest in Mongolia's national side than in the one of Brazil ?

For those who would suggest me gloryhunting: I will for once quote myself with a post (http://foot.ie/showpost.php?p=328237&postcount=24) from a few weeks ago (and the opinion expressed in that post is the opinion I tell everyone, just because I believe in it, even though most people blame me for it - yes, blame, reactions from my Belgian pals are sometimes harsh and they insult me for a "romatics seeker" )

And to make one thing clear: I disgust the Champions League with non-champions in it, and apart from Rosenborg's games in it I prefer to boycot it. For once, and that's a small frustration inside the "eureka feelings", a team of mine however needs that goddamn CL to make the season not entirely crap :(

By the way, I am on my way to launch a small informational website on small football teams and countries. Because most websites don't pay attention to the leagues of places like Falklands, Greenland, Mongolia or San Marino...

Well, I find those leagues more interesting than the big professional leagues, and as I cannot find anything on the net about it worth reading, I will just throw the stories on these often ignored places online myself. I will post the link once the site is finished (don't expect graphical beauty though, I'm a webbuilding rookie, it will be about content and not about quality webbuilding...)

Gerrit, you've been the victim of a wind up here. Everyone cool it off here or this thread will be closed. No one on this forum need justify who they support or be ridiculed for it.

Oh, and one more thing (as a reply to PP's post): I never claimed to be normal. I know, a Belgian supporting Norway may sound strange, but that's my more or less normal side... I never claimed to be perfectly normal and rational.

I have my weird sides (I'm goth after all :o ) but I'd say it's not a bad thing. Special people are strange as well, but "special" sounds so much more friendly than "weirdo", so I'd just like to be labeled as special then if I need a label on my head :p

I have strong sympathies for lot of "weird" countries' teams: Luxembourg, Iceland, Faroe islands, Falkland Islands, Mongolia, New Zealand, ...
The reasons? My very strong interest in the true romantics of this sport (and those are NOT big stars and full stadiums, those are idyllic places where amateurs play only out of love for the sport, places where most people would not even want to expect football's played at all)

Some people blame me for this preference, but I can't help my own interests :)

Then supporting the Nordic countries is because of my lifelong dream to settle down in the Far North. I've been dreaming of the North since I was 5 years old and first looked at the globe, and the dream's still alive. I even learnt Norwegian to increase my chances of finding a job there. So that explains why I support Norway, the most fascinating country in the world in my eyes.

Ok, now let's keep this on topic. If anyone wants to discuss Gerrit's preference choices anymore they can do it elsewhere.

On-topic: I hope they draw Glasgow Rangers or one of the English teams. Short trip and thanks to EasyJet and RyanAir it would be an excellent opportunity to see Rosenborg close to home.

I imagine Rosenborg aren't looking at a good campaign being 4th seeds and their abysmal league season so far.

Gerrit
24/08/2005, 8:07 PM
4th seeds ?? Man, what does UEFA want more ?? 12 participations in 13 years aren't enough to be at least 3rd seeds or what ?!

Oh well, I hate the CL just for this particular reason, why do I even bother trying to think the "protect the big ones" will ever change... Not as long as Johansson has the power :(

And I make no illusions... RBK will not have their best campaign, but being in the league is already that. They will at least get some nice cash flowing in, and that's quite important now that Valerenga has a rich sponsor, the Ch.League money will keep us on track with VIF financially...

I hope to grab a few points, it will mainly have to happen at home. Lerkandal in full winter (and winter-esque conditions start early as Trondheim is not far from the arctic circle) has proven to be a very tough place to play for most European teams. I remember (one of the sweetest memories for every Rosenborg fan) Real Madrid beaten 2-0 in Lerkendal but also Rosenborg was dominating them from beginning to start ; I'd say the wintery conditions helped us that night as Real was clearly not feeling too well that night (apart from us playing a great game :o )

I think I'd be pleased with a 3rd spot and a few more UEFA Cup games.
