Derry City battle past Longford into final


Derry City put a halt to Longford Town's amazing domestic cup run. Having lost just once in 26 previous domestic cup games, Longford's reign as League Cup holders ended in the Brandywell tonight.

Mark Farren fired Derry ahead shortly before half-time after a quick counter-attack. Ciaran Martyn and Gareth McGlynn combined to play in the league's top scorer and his first time strike beat goalkeeper Stephen O'Brien.

Derry book their place in League Cup final


Derry City will face UCD in the final of the 2005 League Cup competition after they beat the current holders, Longford, 2-1 at the Brandywell.

The home side will thank the alertness of their top scorer, Mark Farren, who netted both Derry goals in the 42nd and 68th minutes.

It wasnt really a battle, and for what its worth the ref was unreal.
Still though another final :D
