UEFA has launched an appeal against the fines handed to FC Steaua Bucuresti and PFC CSKA Sofia for the racist conduct of their supporters.

Second thoughts
European football's governing body has asked the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body to reconsider the punishments which saw Steaua fined €16,500 and CSKA €19,500 for the racist behaviour of fans during recent UEFA Champions League qualifying games. The appeal hearings will take place in September.

Steaua appeal
Romanian champions Steaua have also appealed against the decision which was prompted by supporters making "monkey sounds" at Shelbourne FC substitute Joseph Ndo in the final minutes of their second qualifying round second leg. However, CSKA have made no appeal against the penalty imposed on them.

What sort of a message does that send? unless they think the fines are ridiculously small it just tells fans that they can get away with it.

That's nothing short of a total disgrace. When I saw the fine I thought while it was a better message being slightly high for a UEFA fine it still didn't hit much of a message.

Thats prob what it is. I think FIFA appealed Rio Ferdinands 9 month ban to try to get a 2 year one.

The fines should be at least six figures. That's what happened with the Cole tapping up thingy and surely this is a bigger problem. I've never noticed racism at home but is there some?
