Wexford FC v Treaty

The expected cagey game in Ferrycarrig tonight as Wexford grabbed the valuable three points on offer. Wexford started with Charlie, Ethan, Mark, Luka, Ben, Corban, Kian, Reece, Cian, Luke & Thomas. Treaty conceded a lot of space more or less from the start which allowed Wexford to control much of the ball but they found it difficult to really test Conor Winn in the Treaty goal. Wexford’s Corban Piper had a header on three minutes which proved a handy catch for Winn and, on sixteen minutes, Luka Lovic had a good headed chance for Wexford but miscued. Wexford’s threat at this stage was coming from Mark Hanratty down the left and Piper running from midfield. With less of the ball, Treaty probably had the better of the few chances in the first half as Charlie Heffernan got down to block an effort by Treaty’s Dean George and later a snapshot by Treaty flew a yard past the far post with Heffernan working hard to cover it. On 43 minutes, however, Wexford’s Thomas Oluwa got the ball he was craving when able to use his pace to follow a pass into space down Wexford’s left. Winn rushed out but Oluwa was able to round Winn and then finish nicely with his left from an acute angle to put Wexford ahead. 1-0 at halftime for the home side.

Treaty definitely came out to play in the second half with Dean George and Stephen Christopher coming more into the game. In contrast, Wexford seemed largely prepared to protect their lead and rely on the solid back four with Luke Browne and Cian O’Malley again to the fore. Other than a few routine saves which included an involuntary backheader from a Wexford defender, Heffernan didn’t have a lot to do in the Wexford goal in the second period. Treaty brought on four subs in one go midway through the half while Wexford introduced Brandon McCann, Karl Chambers, Eoin Kenny and Danny Furlong, with the latter’s touch and lay-off play again sublime. Treaty got a lot of ball into the Wexford box as the game progressed but Wexford generally looked comfortable. 1-0 to Wexford at fulltime with Piper, Kian Corbally and Luka Lovic also impressing for the home side. Reported to have been 580 at the game.
