Manchester United defender John O’Shea has stressed that the Old Trafford outfit are determined to prove the critics wrong after many wrote off their chances of winning the Premiership.

It is widely regarded that Chelsea will once again win the title followed by Arsenal and United. Jose Mourinho’s side had 18-points to spare last season, but O’Shea believes that the determination in the United side this campaign will drive them onto success.

"There are many examples in years gone by of people saying things about Manchester United and then having to eat their words," said O’Shea. "We just have to do that again."

"We know where we went wrong last season, we let ourselves down against the lesser teams. We have to be fully focused in those games this season and make sure we win them. And when I look around the dressingroom there is no reason why it cannot happen."

O’Shea is set to sign a new four-year contract with United in the coming weeks ending speculation that he was about to leave the club, although he will be second choice left back behind Gabriel Heinze.
