Hi lads,
on wednesday evening I was in the south terrace, and it was my first time at Lansdowne Road. I came from Italy, my hometown Turin, to see Ireland and support the boys in green, and it was just a funny coincidence that it was against 'azzurri'. :p
But anyway, I came out at the end of the match without voice, after singing and screaming for ireland, and with a lot of emotion and shivers and mem'ries to remember. :rolleyes:
It was my first time at Lansdowne and maybe it will be my last until the rebuilt, but what I felt on wed evening was incredible. :o
Yes, we lost, but I think we played a good game and deserved a draw.
What an evening!
Thanks lads, the atmosphere was wonderful, and I was part of it almost for once in my life!

Kerr, I like very much Lansdowne. It's definitely where you can breath real sport, and I enjoyed it very much. ;)

Tony, how was the reaction from the press in Italy? there were enough of them at the game. I guess they were purring about the Italian performance.
I came across some colourfull references to Zaggardo's defending.
"Zaccardo blackout". Also "una bambola grossolana di Zaccardo".
"Peccato per la sbavatura di Zaccardo che regala un minuto dopo il gol agli irlandesi"
Andy Reid "un rasoterra maligno infila nell'ultimo angolo alla sinistra di Roma"

Just reactions about Italy, that f**king media didn't tell anything about our green boys. :(
Anyway they're happy for the azzurri performance, especially about Pirlo and experiment of three forwards Gilardino-DelPiero-Vieri

-"Bambola grossolana" is like "very bad mistake" or "a complete hash of an attempted clearance"
-"Peccato,..." is "what a pity about the Zaccardo's mistake, that presents a goal to the irishmen"
-"Rasoterra..." is "Reid slammed the ball to the far corner at Roma's left"

How did you come to support Ireland????

Because a number of different things put together
-my hate for italian football and its footballer
-my love for british football
-my endless love for Ireland as a country, and for u, irish people

these things plus the history of rep of ireland, made by wars and patriots and wish of freedom and independence, made me some years ago to support Republic of Ireland :)

"Arcigno" on dictionary is "Surly", I don't know.. but anyway it's like a man that never give up on his chance to reach the ball and try to play it. He never surrender. That's Duff indeed ;)

Obviously.. I used "british" adjective meaning that things like pace, atmosphere, type of crowd and so on, that are typical of football from Britain and Ireland and so different with the rest of Europe.. Nothing about nationality, :) I'm the first who remember to my friends supporting Scotland, that irish people battled and took the independence from the crown :D
What I often said to them is: "We are a Republic, instead of you that have your flag mixed with the English one too" :cool: :p

I suppose team from Ireland and England are similar in their style of play, supporters etc as opposed to continental teams.

I would always refer to the island off mainland Europe as the British and Irish Isles :)
