In this sort of topics it's time to brag about my favourites Placebo

For three albums long they had the concept of a last song, then 10 minutes of silence, then followed by a "hidden track". Very clever as it leaves you with temptation and excitement for another 10 minutes while the CD should be over really, and two songs on one-track-of-22-minutes scares of mp3 rippers and copyers :D

My favourite song of all time, "Burger queen" is the closing track of Without You I'm Nothing, the regular closing one that is. Brilliant song, very melancholic and sad, then 10 minutes of silence, and then the hidden track "Evil dildo" which is basically a stalker's message from Brian Molko's answering machine that they put music on... Brilliant :D

My other favourite band Echo & The Bunnymen had the magical epic "Ocean rain" as last song on the Ocean Rain album, they still have "Ocean Rain" as final encore at concerts nowadays.
Then at Evergreen album they had "Forgiven" as last track, a very nice ballad...

Other nice "last songs":

Heather Nova - Just been born / South
Marilyn Manson - Coma White (+ hidden track) / Mechanical Animals
Marilyn Manson - man that you fear (+ hidden track) / Antichrist Superstar
U2 - All I want is you / Best Of 1980-90
Dido - Take my hand / No Angel

By the way, what do you lads think of "saving the best for last" ? Is it a good idea to close the album with a cracker song, or -what some artists do- keep a very good song for the last spot but one, then to close the album with a sort of "outro" song ?

Ones that nearly slipped through:

Tonight we fly - Divine Comedy - Promenade

The perfect ending to an excellent album

Being A Girl - Mansun - Six

Also, taking Gerrit's 'second last song' on board, after the brilliant 'Drivin' on 9' on the Breeders Last Splash, there is a little reprise, but I'm going to count it anyway
