Wexford will be disappointed not to get at least a share of the points in Ferrycarrig tonight as they probably shaded the game overall. But in a match in which neither keeper was tested very often, it was Harps who managed to convert a rare chance to grab all three points. Wexford started with Heffernan, Lynch, Douglas, Boyle, Dobbs, Hanratty, Crawford, Piper, Corbally, Webb and Doran. Harps started brightly and won a couple of corners very early on. This was followed by Harps nearly putting an attacker through on goal but Charlie Heffernan in the Wexford goal was just about able to come out and collect at the edge of his box. On nine minutes, Heffernan had a slice of good fortune when Okqwute of Harps was able to block down a routine clearance by Heffernan, but fortunately for Heffernan, it ran wide of the unguarded Wexford goal. From about the quarter-hour mark, however, the home side began to take control of the game but without really testing Hiemer in the Harps goal. Dobbsy had a header over the bar and Hanratty had a shot a yard wide for Wexford while, towards the end of the half, Hiemer did save from another Hanratty effort on goal and a Wexford corner nearly led to another goal chance. Meanwhile, the Wexford defence, with James Crawford impressing, generally managed to keep the Harps attack in check. 0-0 at half-time.
