I hope Stokes is on form and send a little reminder to Wenger. Too many young promising guys from the youth teams have been ignored in favour of buying readymade players from the continent. If he keeps banging them in for the reserves then maybe he might start making the carling cup squads later this yr. He's still only 16 thought so maybe I'm a bit ahead of myself but he got a good review on the arseblog.com for his performance against the Chelsea reserves last year.

Striker - Anthony Stokes - Arsenal's best player. I found it hard to gauge his size because the lanky Bendtner made him look small and he is well balanced, but he might be around six foot or just under, and still only 16. A very positive player whose decision making is good. He has a good eye for goal and a strong shot, but knows when to play others in too. Most good Arsenal moves involved him. Some players shrink in front of crowds, some are encouraged by them. Stokes looks like one the latter. He tried his tricks and got a good reaction, even When they didn't come off. When Murphy came on for Samuel with ten to go Stokes went right-wing to good effect.

Who's Mark Keane?

Shame the two UCD players who were in the squad at the start of the year (Gary Dicker and Darren Quigley) aren't making the squad now that players are available again...

Chris McCann Burnley
He has been on the bench in Burnley's last 2 (or first 2, whatever you like) league games.

Matthew Connolly Arsenal
If you go through the sticky at the top of the page (which I have to update) you will see a few posts about Connolly. I doubt he was born in Ireland but good to see another Irish Arsenal player. Here's one from yourself Peader:

He seems to have broken into the reserve team and started their first game of the season.

Decent squad, all the names familiar.

Decent squad, all the names familiar.

Very familiar to me because so many of them are lads that I've been following the progress of. I look forward to many of them making the U21 squad so that I can see more of them at Internationl level.

I wonder why Cathal Lordan and Owen Garvan didn't make the squad?

Probably because competitive senior club action would be better for their development than an underage friendly

Odd that the QPR player Johnson isn't on that list, maybe the programme got it wrong.

Plus Gary Dicker is in fine form.

James O'Brien is another Scottish born player, there was a thread on the footymad site a few months ago about him declaring for Ireland...if he starts to come good for Celtic prepare for another McGeady-type uproar.

Someone said Sligo's Gary Curran was included but doesn't look like he is.
BTW why are Scottish nationals declearing themselves Irish.Surely they would have a better chance of International football with the Scots?

Robbie B,

Think you might be right. Few Irish in action tomorrow at QPR v Sheff Utd, Rowlands, Kenny and Quinn and didn't they sign some Irish U19 player from Wolves?

Would have been interesting. Wouldn't it be great if he just made a said who he wants to play for and then the debate would end.

Hard to call, even if he had been called up to the squad, would he have been better off playing competitive games with Sheffield Wednesday, like Garvan hasn't been called in because he's playing regularly with Ipswich?

Gary Mulligan?

Thats him. Sheffield Utd seem to buy and loan players all the time. He never puts a sub eeper on the bench so Mulligan might get a chance after they sold that striker to Sunderland for 1.1 million!!!

We have 3 players invited to train with the squad but not actually part of the squad. I suspect your guy and QPR's Johnson is in the same position.

I'm sure the Irish U19 coach knows the answer to that. I doubt he knows how much interest there is in it though. :)
