Wexford had to work hard to secure the three points against a game Kerry side in a drizzly Ferrycarrig this evening. With three Wexford midfielders having been injured in Finn Park in the previous game, it was a rejigged Wexford team which started against Kerry. Manager James Keddy started with Heffernan, D. Levingston, Douglas, Boyle, McCann, Dobbs, Crawford, Webb, Tallon, Hanratty and Doran. It was a dream start for Wexford on three minutes when Wexford were allowed overload the far post too easily from a Wexford free, and Ethan Boyle headed back into the danger area where Mark Hanratty volleyed home with his left for 1-0 to Wexford. Wexford continued to threaten after their lead goal with Aaron Doran having a shot blocked and Dobbsy shooting straight at Guthrie in the Kerry goal when well placed. On twenty minutes, Charlie Heffernan had an easy catch from a Kerry effort from the left wing and Charlie then subsequently had to parry away an even better Kerry shot on goal. Kerry came more and more into the game at this stage before, on 38 minutes, Wexford hit the Kerry post from a free and Aaron Doran somehow couldn’t knock the rebound home from close in. 1-0 to Wexford at half-time.
