Virgin Media to show Bohs/Rovers next week, their first ever Domestic League of Ireland game.
With their 4 channels, it would be great if Virgin Media came on board as a broadcasting partner. The Bohs v Rovers game will be on at the same time as many of us are supporting our own clubs.

It is good news another tv channel doing games, but remember folks they are getting these essentially for free, no tv deal and we are in vast minority in europe on this, means obv no tv revenue for clubs.

Also remember that the league needs TV exposure to attract sponsors.

It'll be Kerr & Richie Dunne I'd say.
Kerr has nothing to say, and ample opportunity to say it, it would seem.

As long as both ourselves and yourselves leave our gob****e fans at home I’ll be happy!
Banter and at times loud abuse, hatred and noise all directed at opposition and players, that’s the derby, but the pavement dancers have no business at either of our clubs

There's only going to be 450 tickets available for Rovers so that should reduce the prospect of trouble between the two sets of fans. The flip side of that, of course, is historically the local guards handling of the game has always been slipshod to say the least. To be fair to the tallaght unit they're normally on the ball in terms of handling potential trouble issues, but maybe boez fans have a different view on that.

The new arrangements at Dalymount makes things much safer, almost despite the local Gardas efforts

Totally agree their pc, the store street mob haven’t a clue and seemingly little interest in olicing it properly, also agree the tallaght games are very well organised.
The fans really have to take on an amount of responsibility too though, in these times of members and st holders claiming all tickets it worries me that the trouble seekers still come out of the woodwork for this fixture and still cause mayhem.

Somewhat surprising that they chose those matches out of the fixtures those weeks.
Good call showing a match on May bank holiday Monday.

Virgin announcing they are showing a live game could have been the catalyst for this announcement and IF they were both to compete to show live games it can only be good for the game. There may not be money involved but is free advertising for the game and with so many full houses it will ad to the attraction.

Dundalk looks really poor on TV though, and presumably plays a part in the decision making.

Shelbourne v Derry is live on RTÉ tonight. RTÉ are ignoring Louth GAA as well due to poor camera positions. Dundalk v Rovers is the standout game today. Another reason to have LOITV than rely on a broadcaster.

I highly doubt that RTE are too concerned about how a LoI ground looks on TV! They may look at convenience eg permanent camera positions and their health and safety reports are not at all histrionical, stringent, and subjetive so could be swayed there..

Can we read anything into this move by Virgin!

Are the FAI involved in some ongoing behind the scene talks about a proper TV package for the league?

Part of the new FAI structure and changes was to look at the overall TV coverage of the domestic league games. Promotion of the games is an important structure to the games here!

Maybe to arrange a full season coverage that is not combined or dictated by the Irish International's team games.

Anyone got any insight or details, if this is coming down the line.

I guess the fixture involved has made it attractive to them to pick it up. It's actually now clashing with Leinster in the European Cup Quarter-Final on RTE so it will be interesting to see what sort of numbers it does for them.

It's all over every news bulletin they do and pretty much every advert too. Interviews with Coote and Devine today and I assume the Rovers camp over the next few days. They're definitely giving it a big push.

I noticed that myself, even during the ad breaks on some of their daytime programmes. Can’t say they aren’t putting in the effort to promote it anyway.

Great that they are televising it… only downside is that it’s going head to head with the Leinster match ( Heineken cup) that will be free to air on RTE 2…. Also a horrible clash for D4 Rovers/ Leinster fans

Is there much of a crossover between Leinster and LOI fans though ? I wouldn’t have imagined so, but maybe I’m wrong ?

Growing up many like myself lived near Milltown , went to one of the local private schools ; so played rugby but at the same time discovered Rovers/Milltown ; so have a mutual likening for both - however to paraphrase the old song … “…. As the years go by their numbers grow fewer ..”

VM are on board once they can acquire ‘ready to go’ packages i.e. productions which don’t require outside broadcast set-ups for live match coverage.
If the coverage of League of Ireland clubs in Europe are 'ready to go' packages, hopefully they might come on board showing the qualifying rounds during the summer.

Something McBennett said RTE couldn't do because they have such high standards. He didn't get half enough stick for the nonsense he came out with on LOI Central that time

Would RTE really give a sh1te? The fact virgin can lift these games without having to do an OB it's pretty much a no brainer. Only concern you'd have is if LOI TV had a really bad night how amateurish would it look on TV if say the stream went down etc.

I am right in thinking it is unusual to have games on RTE during the summer months?

As much as its good to see LOI games on TV, sponsors will be happy, increases profile for the league and clubs, good for showcasing, but clubs get €0.00.

We are still one of a few leagues in Europe with no tv deal, its a real shame as the product is there, but only 4 clubs will / can make any decent sort of money each year by making europe.

They dont use LOITV. They did a great job on the Dalymount derby so it is definitely costing them.

Broadcasters like to build a story. The efforts of LoI clubs to progress is Europe should get more TV coverage. All of Shamrock Rovers Champions League qualifying rounds should be on TV. At least one of the three clubs on a Thursday should also be shown. If LOITV feed is available for the home games, that's ready and available for VM. Away fixtures will be dependent on the hosts.

Maybe now that most clubs are announcing sell outs, and euro qualified clubs can do their own deals, and loi fans can access their own clubs via loitv, this is the time to tell Irish tv to **** off or show us the money?
The fans are flocking to games , traditional small home gates at bohs, pats, shels are up 200%, maybe more. Rovers mythical and much storied huge support have finally got off their arses and gone to tallaght, a fine ground.
Cork are back, Galway ditto, Waterford are flying, he’ll even the students are stirring!!
Time for the tv monarchy to head to the stocks lads, off with their heads, vive la revolution.?
