I wonder what photos they brought back.

I hear they so popular in Columbia that the government there wants to give free 1 way tickets back.

How did they get back into Ireland? What passports they use now?

Scum.

The Provos disband, yeah right.

In all fairness, youve got to ask the question. What were the three boys doing stuck in the middle of the Colombian jungle, travelling on false passports amidst a long running brutal civil war between a vicious corrupt autocratic right wing dictatorship and an equally vicious and corrupt left-wing narco terrorists.

This might sound naive, but I just don't buy the allegation that these guys were giving training to FARC. There are hundreds of military / guerilla warfare consultants, AKA mercenaries, who could do a far better job, people who have access to all the contemporary hardware, not to mention those who have experience of waging guerilla war in a jungle setting.
Don't get me wrong; obviously, they were not there to collect botanical samples, but so what? FFS, paramilitaries in the North on both sides who carried out brutal murders are walking free today following early release under the GFA. All that makes the Colombia Three different is the media interest in the show trial they faced. Why should we be bothered? This is a nine day wonder. IMO most people will have forgotten all about it in less than a fortnight.

They were doing the World Terorism 101 lecture series; how to attack the Brits. The Colombians take a very holistic approach to terorism dont ya know ;)

Were they not training the FARC lads bombing making 101?

We have no right to tell the Columbians what to do that will help the Peace Process here.

A shame they couldn't leave Columbia in Peace. Would irish people object to foreign terrorists going to NI to "talk" to Loyalist paramilitaries?

you should write for the herald indo etc.

as for leaving colombia in peace they were found "not-guilty" before a reversal of the decision, ie "try them again til we get the verdict we want", kinda like the nice treaty and FF

no civilised country should extradite someone to a country like colombia anyway.barring the west-coast touristy part, its one of the most dangerous countries on the planet. do you know anything about that modello prison they were held in?built for something like 1000 inmates, currently holds 5000+, gunfights, riots and murders are a regular occurence.it holds the most dangerous criminals/terrorists in colombia. its a effectively a death sentence to return anyone to that place

Do you think Al Queda should be allowed.

I beleive there is an international arrest warrant out for these bird watchers. If that is the case the gardai have a duty to take them into custody if they can find them. Columbian would then try to extradite so this would have to be decided in an irish court. An irish court could decide to hold the trial in this country which would probably satisfy most people.

Also its been suggested the 3 bird watchers have broken irish law by travelling on false passports so they have to face a trial for that.
