Aside from the wonderful job he did as Bohs manager and his friendly spitting at Bohs fans etc, no reason
First I've ever heard of anything like that. Any reports in the media, etc. at the time, mentioned Bohs fans' disgraceful personal threats towards Mahon and his family, but never anything the other way around.

But sure the big pub fans are absolute angels, they wouldn't have hounded a decent man from his job, it MUST have been all his own fault....

My Favourites would be Pat Devlin, Rico and Dolan.
Devlin is a nice enough chap whos stuck with Bray, Rico is just class and Dolan is almost a comedy charchter.

I really cant stand Eamon Collins whos a moany little ****ebag. Not a huge fan of Fenlon or Matthews either.

Favourite: Roddy - total spoofer and a chancer but likeable enough in his own peculiar way...

Least Favourite:
Whinger Matthews: everything that is horrible about football is encompassed in his "vision" of the game...

Whiny Doolin, useless manager, and a spoofer without a single redeeming feature.

That absolute horrible, nasty little creep Collins with $hel$.

I always liked Jimmy McGeough, seems like a decent man and is an excellent manager. I'd reckon Kenny is way ahead in this poll, but I always found him a little too sweet to be wholesome...;)

Rico is an absolute gentleman, easily the bestmanager, and the nicest guy, in the league...:p

there was never any personal threats made to Mahon or his family. If his daughter cant handle her father getting stick from Bohs fans then she should never have gone to the games.

Like - David Jeffrey at Linfield (because he's an absolute gent). Johnny Speake (when he managed Harps for the same reason). STtphen Kenny ain't a bad guy from what I've seen of him.

Dislike - Pat Fenlon (cause he's so bloody annoying), Damian Richradson(cause he's a ****), Dermot Keely (cause he's a money grabbing ****er).
Gavin Dykes (cause he couldn't speak the truth if his life depended on it)

Why lally hes not hatable? or is he ? And hes definitely not scrawny hes a fat boy :D
I cant stand that fat cvnt, hes a chancer, a no hoper that festers on the Eircom League and will never amount to anything but he will continue to leech on meager First Division finances. Im glad fat boy got a face full of saliva the last time he came to the showgies, the only redeeming feature on Big Mac is that he is sucking the resources out of that bitter, jealous little club. To sum it up a new Don 'O'Riordan.

Oh come on. You practically prove there were such actions by your second sentence! It was widely documented, and even Paul Doolin - for whom I have very little time - commented on it in his public row with Mahon last year. Pure scumbags, whoever was behind it.

And in fact, here is the media reporting the abuse -

Breaking news (http://archives.tcm.ie/breakingnews/2001/12/08/story32583.asp)
"Mahon resigned from the post following the abuse he and his family were getting from the fans."

RTÉ (http://www.eurovision.ie/sport/2001/1210/bohemians.html)
"Kenny replaces Pete Mahon who stood down from the post last week after a string of poor results saw him and his family subjected to torrent abuse from the club's supporters."

Scumbags, plain and simple. Or would the Bohs fans like to re-write history some more?

Favourite: Stephen Kenny (good manager and a nice fella) and Roddy Collins (not a big fan of his managerial style, but a really sound fella to talk to). Gareth Farrelly seems alright too. Of course Rico's better than any of them!
Least favourite: If it was of all time, then Dermot Keely would win by a distance. Of the current crop, Doolin just annoys me, Matthews is a feckless dope with a bad attitude, Dolan is two-faced and full of ****, but of course, Shels are well out in front: Fenlon is just an irritating pest with a major attitude problem, and that red-faced twerp who hangs around with him is just as bad.

Ok as far as I know, the whole "Mahon's family threats" happened like this:

Playing inept football, Bohs are set for set an other match without a win under Pete Mahon
Bohs fan: Mahon you're a ******
Mahons's offspring:He's my father
Bohs fan:You're the child of a ****** then

Hardly a threat is it?

Would ya get the boat pineapple head...

As one of the few Bohs fans that stuck with him until almost the end until it was quite clear he would never have a future at the club, I was disgusted by his pathetic whining to the nation's media.

I seriously doubt that any "threats to his family members" were ever made, unless you count fans calling Mahon a **** in front of his family as a threat, while I certainly don't condone it, there is no way you can interpret that as a threat.

Just because sections of the media, i.e. the examples you have just given; RTE and Breakingnews.ie decided to believe Mahon's sob story does not mean that his story is true. Wasn't it very convenient on his part to go on national radio, on Marian Finnucane's show to spill his tear provoking story to the public? Wasn't it very convenient that Mahon then had the media focusing on the "scum" who made threats to his family... Cop on to yourself and realise that all he was trying to do was take of the attention off himself and the terrible job that he had done with a team who had just won the double in style.

As a result of his pathetic whining, the media lost sight on why he really lost the job: the terrible signings, his tactical naivety and the fact that he lost the respect of his players.

I thoroughly appreciate his obvious abilities as a coach, the great job he is currently doing at UCD and the remarkable achievements he amassed at St. Francis, but at Bohs, a big club, he was found out that he was not up to such a job. He was incapable of handling the expectations of the board, fans and press who expected bigger and better things, especially considering the positive start the club had made to the season.

It was his failure to live up to these high expectations and not being able to deal with the increasing pressure that followed that led to Mahon losing his job. I hold no grudges against Mahon, despite him dragging the good name of Bohemians into disrepute; in fact I wish him all possible success at UCD.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just for the record:

Favourites: Kenny*, Keely, Mahon

Disliked: Fenlon, Doolin, Devlin

------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Kenny: It was a pity his tenure at Bohs at Bohs ended in the way it did. He quite clearly lost his composure towards the end. It was definitely time for him to go. He'd lost to a poor club in Europe and, for the second season running, failed to mount a serious challenge for the title. There were stories of unrest at his handling of team affairs within the dressing room, he had clearly not spent transfer and wage budgets wisely and it was only a matter of time before he got the chop. He failed to live up to the high standards that Bohs and he himself had set. But I will always be grateful for the title win at Tolka in 2003 and of course, the way he left in a dignified manner.
It looks like Bohs have surrendered any chance of winning the title this season, mainly through way of our poor start and mounting injury list over the past while. This considered; I sincerely hope that Kenny can bring the title up to the randy Brandywell.

Why would anyone mention him?
He is neither good, bad or indifferent so far, and has gone largely unnoticed by most eL fans. Probably a good thing for the big pub?

See, this list alone means you can't possibly be a real Bohs fan, and so your arguments are invalid! ;)

With respect, I'd believe media reports over you "doubting" something happened. Some basis v. pure speculation. From talking to Pete, particularly after the Doolin rant, I know he isn't the kind to go whining for no reason. Yes, he didn't bring success to Bohs - especially after his good start (beating Levadia 3-0 and us 6-0 :( ), but to assume all Bohs fans were angels in his demise is, to borrow a phrase used about Ollie on another thread, out of character, I'm afraid.

However, in the absence of any further evidence (unless I find more reports on the net), I think we can just leave it at that and leave any fans who are interested make up their own minds.

In fact, here's a more detailed article from the Examiner (http://archives.tcm.ie/irishexaminer/2001/12/12/story19084.asp). Just to highlight a few bits bits -

"Mahon said that following a draw against Dundalk, a number of people stood outside his house at 1.15am shouting obscenities."

"But after the game 20 or so people came down towards the pitch. Some of the things they were chanting you wouldn't want to hear."

And, to back up some of what you were saying -

"Mahon said he received numerous messages of support and that the genuine Bohemians' supporters were embarrassed by the minority who were giving the club a bad name."

Bohs fans here are making out that the "abuse" was just casual remarks in the stand which were overheard by his family. This article shows that to be nonsense, but does highlight that it weas a minority of Bohs fans.

I'll just say this, whatever Bohs fans think of Mahon and his abilities I for one am delighted to have him. Not only did he nearly save us from relegation being totally adrift, he got us promoted at first time of asking and has given us Premier stability all while doing decent in the cups. All while playing decent football. Not only has he got it right on the park though but he has also brought structure back to the club, getting the conveyor belt of talent going again from the scholarship scheme. Basically fixed every aspect of the club demolished by Doolo and his lack of foresight.
