Any thoughts on this coming seasons FAI Junior Cup, the first round matches should be kicking off around the 1st/2nd week of September...

You are asking awful early. The tips would be as follows; Fairview Rangers, Pike Rovers, Carew Park, St Michaels, Peake Villa, Carrick United, Waterford Crystal, Portmarnock United, Ballymun, Killester United, Mervue United, Galway Hibs and Westport United. That is depending on draws that we will not know about until next month.

Possible outside bet. They have a habit of getting carried away with themselves over a scalp like against Usher Celtic, took Ballynanty Rovers for granted and got caned. They need to treat the FAI Junior Cup pretty seriously and use it as a stepping stone. Rumour has it that Westport United have the fifth longest unbeaten record in the FAI Junior Cup (over ninety minutes). Sounds a great record and winning the cup only once.

Abbey utd the current Sligo Leitrim Champions have signed a lot of good players in the closed season so i think they can go well! And they have a new young manager in Sasha Curran!with player,s like Glenn shannon and Damien shannon and colin jinks john gaffney neil mckenna all ex glenview stars beaten finalist in last years con cup.Plus Keith carty and D scanlon of Castlebar to rejoin.I think they can do well in both conn and the fai cups!

i doubt that they have the fifth longest unbeaten record, how many games have they played,i think that fairview went 40+ games unbeaten and cherry orchard must be up there too plus there's a couple of sides that won back to back fai's over the years too

Westport been unbeaten over 90 minutes in FAI Cup for the last 3 years. have only been beaten in extra time or pens.

Is the draw done does anyone know?

If yes can we get access to the full draw?
If no when is it being done?

Either Pat Whitty or Denis Cruise knows the answers to those questions.

At least one of the 'big boys' out by the second round then....should be a cracker should both the boro and the view progress as expected. :ball:

Freebooters V Portmarnock, Mervue United V Galway Hibs and St. Michael's V Peake Villa. It will be a serious culture shock to see three of these teams out of the competition in October, particularly the latter of the pairings. Other interesting draws include Southend United V Carrick United in Waterford.

Erris V Castlebar Celtic is a big one in Mayo as well.
I see The current holders have to start off almost where they left off with a game against Crossmolina.
What chance history repeating itself?

TB, your hand must be sore!

Within its own rights it would be a big game. I think the pressure would be on Dykes to deliver on a prolonged and successful cup run for Celtic to give value for money.

The erris v castlebar celtic game is huge but dont think there pressure on dykes to be honest at the moment next win is the huge year for him if he win aib cup and westaro cup this year he fine.

Dont think game matters a great deal as celtic or erris will not be contesting for honours in this particular competition.

Is there any place in the country that has odds for the FAI Junior Cup this year?...Who are the favourites?
Well whoever the favourites are, Carrick Utd should be added as having seen how they came through yesterday's game against Southend their name must be on the cup. To say they were lucky is an understatement. They got a very dubious penalty to level the match at 1-1, Southend had a player sent off after a melee - involving (from Carrick) the only player I know who could start a riot in a monastery and who in the first few minutes had head-butted his opposite number in mid-field (after that description - name not needed) and even having the 1 man advantage had a few narrow escapes before the end. To cap it all who scores the final penalty to secure victory only the afore mentioned walking riot. Put your money on them now (to beat Clonmel Town in the final).

I am surprised that no one has mentioned Clonmel Town as being a great bet for this years FAI Junior Cup. So far this season they have a 100% record in the South Tipp League having beaten both St. Michaels and Peake Villa away from home. They have a good set up and will be hard to break down. Two Munster Junior finals in a row shows cup pedigree.

Peake Villa will not mount any challenge this year. They were comfortably beaten by Clonmel Celtic last week in a basement battle in the league and Celtic are no great shakes by any means.

[QUOTE=tipp man]I am surprised that no one has mentioned Clonmel Town as being a great bet for this years FAI Junior Cup. So far this season they have a 100% record in the South Tipp League having beaten both St. Michaels and Peake Villa away from home. They have a good set up and will be hard to break down. Two Munster Junior finals in a row shows cup pedigree.

Peake Villa will not mount any challenge this year. They were comfortably beaten by Clonmel Celtic last week in a basement battle in the league and Celtic are no great shakes by any means.[/QUOTE

Interesting to hear....

Anyone know what odds they are.

I'd say it depends on the amount of entries per district.
Last year there was three or four rounds in Mayo before the open draw.

So thats no good to you and I'll just get my coat...................................

It was great to see Clonmel Town beat Cobh Ramblers in the Munster Senior Cup last year, thought they would beat St. Michaels in the Munster Junior Cup final but it wasn't to be. From the results above Clonmel Town must be even stronger this year!

Clonmel are definately in with a genuine chance. I would be very surprised if the FAI Junior Cup champions 2005-2006 doesn't come from either Limerick (Fairview,Balla,Pike,Carew Park),South Tipp (St. Michaels, Clonmel Town) or Waterford (Waterford Crystal, Carrick United)

As far as I know the only time a team went through a season in the South Tipp league with a 100% record (i.e played 16 won 16) was in 1994 and it was Clonmel Town who achieved it. That year they won the FAI Junior Cup.

This season; they have played 8 and won 8. Just marking your cards! That said their home tie against Nenagh Celtic is no walkover as Nenagh Celtic have been the only team worth taking about in North Tipp for a few years now.

Last night Peake Villa of Thurles knocked out one of the cup favourites St. Michaels. In a scrappy game played under lights at Cooke Park, Peake snatched a win with a Davy Horan header in the 86th minute. It was the best Peake have played all season and probably the worst Siants have played. A disaster for Saints who were the better side but who just coundn't take any of the opportunites that they managed to carve out. Well done to Peake though, a club in turmoil after a disasterous start to the league and a change of manager last week. This win could well ignite their season.

New manager in charge of Peake Villa is Demot Finnan, am I correct in saying so??

Also
Only FAI game to be played in Limerick this weekend was Star Rover 3-1 Cappamore.
