I'll believe it when I see it :D
Have RTE ever been to the Brandywell?
Looks like RTE dumped TG4 (were they not to show games throughout August?) off that game as high profile.
Maybe the FAI/eL made a suggestion to RTE?
Yet another example of the anti dublin bias from the Red Necked Kerry Socialists that run RTE......AND TO THINK I pay my licence fee for this!!!
disgraceful.....wots their email address???

Have RTE ever been to the Brandywell?
They broadcast the cup semi between Derry and Waterford live last year.
Also, wasn't the first-ever eL fixture broadcast live on TV staged at the Brandywell in 1997? Derry were certainly involved, they beat Shels (?) 1-0 with a stooping header (Hutton?)

Of course! Its statistically proven that games between Dublin teams have more goals.
Christ almighty
Obviously the dawning prospect of a 3rd place finish is making people in Drumcondra cranky....
Looking forward to the clash of the table toppers!

I said nothing about stats,I'm not from Drumcondra and i'm looking forward to it too

it is actually a statistical fact. So that ends that argument - you can check it on the RSSF site (havent a link handy). Dublin introduced football to the country and to this day are the principal purveyors of the game. Country people codefied their stick fighting and games of chance with a meeting in a Thurles brothel in 1888 in response to the 'Dublin' game......this organisation is known today as the GAA
However Dublin extended the right for country folk to play real football in 1971 and now even Cork people like Roy Keane have gone on to represent Ireland in football, only 20 years ago it would have been unthinkable for a non dub to play in the green of ireland.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the first ever live televised European game involving an Irish team to be broadcast on RTE was Derry City Versus Benfica back in the 89/90.

I know its probably being mentioned before but why do they show live matches on friday nights? Why cant the match be changed to a day it doesnt clash with most other EL fixtures like they do for the Premiership. Would make more sense to me

The first time a game other than a Cup Final was featured live on Irish TV was Derry v Benfica from the Brandywell in 1989/90. Benfica then managed by a certain Mr S G Ericsson.
RTE have been to the Brandywell a few other times as well. Just not much in recent years.

I completely agree with Saturday night. Though during the EPL season would it not clash with Premiership highlights?

I think in RTÉ's defence, they've never been scared of travelling to the depth of mucker land and are showing Dundalk-Drogheda this month as well. 'Tis just the other two that need sorting out!

Hasn't been much point up to this year though, has there? I know from the TV crews that certain grounds are preferred due to ease of installation of facilities. For example, the RSC in Waterford is supposedly the easiest ground to film in, now if only we had something there that people would want to watch

It looks terrible on TV though!
Bohs and Pats have the right idea with the cameras looking onto fairly decent stands.

ye should try and bring in halftime beheadings or public stonings for people caught shagging sheep that would be a big crowd puller imo

Thats crazy decision. RTE are clearly trying to derail out title ambitions as we have traditionally been bad on live tv.

Shame on you Pete :D . RTE have gone so far as to cover a Derry City v Cork game from the Brandywell before. I think Pat Morley scored for you lot on that occasion, was an awful game.
Derry have a tendency to play poorly when the cameras are in the Brandywell so lets hope for a good, open game of football

It'll have to go some way to top the entertainment fest that is Rovers v Pats.
Who's idea was it to televise this game?

We were the same until this season. I think when teams are not on tv very often they are nervous.

They're also going to show Cork v Shlebourne on Monday August 15th from Turners X. Cork twice on RTE in the space of 5 days.
Showing Cork City twice in 1 week is just an unusual event that Aertel had to annouce with its own page.

Did you watch it all Hamish? How was the game? It had 0-0 borefest written all over it before it kicked off in my opinion. Can't figure out what possessed them to show it.
