1st or 2nd place in the League look a hard task now.

I think 3rd place will only do if City beat City in the FAI Cup Final.

Apparently there is inter toto next year, so 3rd place would do.

Inter Toto is good for emerging team like City last year & Bohs this season.
Hard to move from CL down to Inter Toto.

For whats its worth i'd like the League to have its strongest teams in Europe which is why don't want lower table team to win the FAI Cup.

We've not other distractions now so I think we will finish third at least. I think either Cork or Derry will have a bad run (hard to see them both slumping though), so I think we are well capable of finishing 2nd too.

A team of

Delaney

Heary Hawkins Rodgers Fleming

Baker/Ndo S Byrne Moore Weso

Byrne Crowe

- should be good enough to go on a great run! Bohs are a decent side but I don't think they have the strength in depth to maintain their recent good form, and prehaps, we are seeing this already.

Really do think that $hels will become more consistent as the season moves into the 3rd section of matches but they won't finish above 3rd. Cannot see City or Cork finishing outside the top 2.

it's a tall ask for Shels alright. Even if they beat Cork twice and Derry over the run in, it's hard to see them clawing back that kind of deficit. The fact that they play Cork twice could play into Derry's hands though. Hopefully it'll come down to the last game of the season. Either way, the Cork Derry game coming up will go a long way to deciding the destination of the title. If Cork win then it's only theirs to throw away.

..Shels will find it hard to recover this season. And I think the table will finish as it is with the top 3. Even though i hope Derry win it. Next season maybe Shels can get back on track ;)
C'MON DERRY CITY
Well done to Shels for there good run in Europe this season and last season with a legendary result against deportivo......Keep it up lads

I think if we got 2nd it would be a miracle. I dont know how we can do it though. The team hasnt really been firing on all cylinders all season. Inter to to is a load of c0ck when your trying to go for the group stages of the champions league. :(

I think they'll be doing well to be still in existence never mind Europe. How are they affording all the wages???

Surely the fact that they didnt win the Setanta Cup and have gone out earlier than last year in Europe will seriously affect their coffers.

We wouldn't have banked on getting any further in Europe, got a bigger crowd than expected for the first leg in fact I'd say.

Perfect time to offload a quality striker, left back and if you have one spare, a back up keeper. I know of one club who'd be very keen on such a deal.

Yeah we might have to make a few cutbacks in that regard alright, and lose our star player and left back Dave Crawley. The entire winnings of the Setanta Cup prize money fund should just about cover it, we're that desperate.

Could this be the start of a Cork blip? Puts even more emphasis on the Derry game coming up. I don't really care who wins the league so I have to hope Derry win next week to keep it tight at the top.

Haha. Record in the last 14 games! City better on the road anyway.

Cork City
11 wins 3 draws 0 loses.

Derry City
9 Wins 3 Draws 2 Loses

Shels
7 Wins 3 Draws 4 Loses

Bohs
8 Wins 3 Draws 3 Loses

That's why I said start of a blip :D

Didn't see game last night but reports in the paper said that Cork were as bad as they've been all season.

I think $hel$ will finish second, at least.

Shels may make Europe...only if the Inter Toto is not being done away with in 2006/2007 !

For those who think it's all over. If Shels win their two games in hand that puts them 9 points behind. A win for Derry could then put only 6 points between Shels and Cork with 2 games between the teams still to play.

It could be the closest finish for a few years yet lads.

And Derry v Cork and Cork v Shelbourne are all coming up in just over a week :)

I take it you dont mean Intertoto when you say Europe?

Anyway Im 99% sure we can catch Derry City. They will lose a few games between now and the end of the season. Cork have had the chance to be at the top now for a few years and I wouldnt expect them to lose as many.

I doubt we have enough to win the league but catching Derry and finishing 2nd is not too difficult.

catching derry will be much more difficult than your making it out to be. There is no chance shels will beat derry although use are well due a win against us or maybe even a draw. :D its been along time since i seen shels beat derry. haha. am sorry for u m8 but ur living in a dreamworld if you think its gona be easy to catch derry. ENJOPY DREAMING THO

The usual attitude towards Derry prevails in this thread. We are no less likely to lose matches than Cork yet we are still treated as under-dogs. We will see Corks true colours when they enter the dragon's lair in 2 weeks :)

There wont be no warm welcome when cork come thats for sure. it will be a night that we will be seen as much more than underdogs.we'll actually become real title contenders, and everyone will realise that we arent jist there to make up numbers. its about time ppl stood up and took notice of derry.

I think Derry are very much real contenders. I went to Waterford to watch them last week and was very impressed by what I saw.
I think they can pose a challenge to us and I'm really looking forward to going to the game in the Brandywell on Friday week. It will be absolutely massive and hopefully a cracker of a match.
