First time in a matchday squad for a premier league game today, alongside Andrew Moran on the subs bench

Good to see. I’ve watched him a few times with their PL2 team. Haven’t been overly impressed. He has improved his crossing this year, good going forward. I’ve serious question marks on his defending and he’s given the ball away cheaply a number of times in dangerous positions. Interesting to see him on bench, 9 man bench making a difference…

Probably fair to say that if it was a seven man bench neither Irish player would have been on it. Given that the game was won well before the end it might have made sense to bring one of them on. That neither came on suggests that they're not really in the plans short term. I'd have more hope for Moran than Furlong in terms of making it at a decent level longer term.

If he plays regularly there now does he instantly come into contention for senior squad considering our lack of options at left back?

I doubt it, Motherwell are a poor team and we have four or five left backs playing in the Championship, which is a much higher level. Furlong's aim should be to try to get into the Under 21 team.

I haven’t been impressed with him at PL2 level in the several games that I’ve seen. Would be surprised if he transforms into the left back we’ve been yearning for

None are massively standing out though. It does seem to be where we have the least amount of talent coming through

An assist today for Motherwell, who have been doing well since his loan move. Is this his first assist in senior football? Appears to be a good loan move, main thing is senior football at his age. Will be interesting to see where he lands next season

Reportedly subject to a rejected bid from Legia Warsaw, who finished second in the Ekstraklasa last year.

Still no word on this being official.

Good move and puts him a level above Roughan too. If he plays regularly then puts him in the spot as first choice for the U21s but with the lack of LB options for the senior team it also opens up a possible senior call up if you're impressing in the championship. More so if we've got a few friendlies between the qualifiers and NL.

This is a very good move for him - Roseinor knows Brighton players and is a very good coach - Connolly, Vaughan, McLoughlin, Christie and Furlong there now.

Was discussing options for left back after the match yesterday. If we are to go for a flat back four at some stage who are our options?
Manning - more of a wing back?
O'Dowda - more a wing back?
Doherty - has played on the left before but doesn't look comfortable.
Stevens - 33, always looked better as a wing back than full back but not the future either way.
McClean - age and ability to play the position
Other options:
Dennis Cirkin? - he'll be 22 next year so might he be interested in a call up to the country of his birth?
Sean McLoughlin - I think he has filled in at left back a few times at club level. Has a good bit of championship experience but maybe a square peg in a round hole
Omobamidele - could do a job here but again square peg in a round hole?
Liam Scales - Similar to the above two.
Future options.
Furlong
Roughan

Think you can play O'Shea there in a flat back four. Thought Adaramola looked good the little I've seen of him but seems to be well off the radar now.
Joel Bagan seems to have dropped off the radar. On loan in Belgium (Zulte Waregem) this season. Seems to be getting games at least.

Bar Scales the only other CB I'd fancy playing at LB would be O'Shea. Think if a flat back four is tried again whomever is manager should promote youth. Play offs look unlikely so will have two friendlies in March and minimum two in June. The only qualifier the U21s play in those windows is San Marino. At a minimum should have Roughan or Furlong in training with the seniors and get minutes from the bench.
