Fans, robbed of travelling to the Faroes by fog, are invited to Italy match

Were you one of the fans who booked flights and bought match tickets but didn’t get to the Faroe Islands because of the fog?

The FAI would like to provide you with a complimentary ticket for the home friendly international game against Italy on August 17th if you were one of the disappointed fans.

The FAI hope you will accept this gesture of appreciation because the officer board of the Association want to acknowledge your good intentions and your efforts to support our National team in that crucial match.

The FAI regretted that Ireland’s faithful fans were thwarted by exceptional circumstances on that occasion and decided to take this initiative as a gesture of our appreciation of your loyal support.

This attractive fixture against Italy sees another full-house at Lansdowne Road as Ireland continue the build up to the final World Cup qualifying games in the Autumn.

The match tickets for the Italian game have been sent to the tour operators whose flights were affected by the fog and if you were one of the unlucky fans you should contact your tour operator to avail of the ticket.

The FAI appreciates the effort you made to support the squad in the Faroes and we hope you can make it to Lansdowne for the friendly with the Italians.

As I understand it around 500 tickets are being made available for the Italy game for fans who never made the Faroes. I am sure those fans would have appreciated it more if they were given a ticket for the France game, but where do think 500 (or whatever number) tickets would have come from?

Not from the French allocation. There is a requirement that 10% of tickets are allocated to the visiting association for competitive games. There is no such requirement for friendlies and I expect these 500 or so tickets are being made available from the tickets normally allocated to the away team in compettive games, West Upper or Lower, Havelock Square end?

I got the same e-mail too.
Looking for a bit of advice here. As i'm already goin to the Italy game with friends (standing E. terrace). Should I claim my free ticket, which is probably for the stands, and try to pass it on to someone on here? Or just leave it as I'm already sorted? :confused:

Remember the terraces are open for Italy so plenty more tickets available.

Stupid Idea. Any block booker who went to Faroes would already have a ticket to Italy game due to having to buy all tickets or loss of block booking allocation.

I went over a day earlier than my friends who did not make it and dont feel like I should be given a free ticket, in fact I'd be embarressed if offered one. It was purely luck that I went on Monday nothing whatsoever to do with dedication. If you are a dedicated fan then surely you will already have a ticket for the Italy game, why would you need another one?

Its a gesture from the FAI and its one that ye wouldn't expect from them. I say fair play to them as they will sell out this match. Its seems to be a small attempt to get 'dedicated' fans on their side. Thats fair enough I say...they need to do more of this kind of stuff. It needn't be us against them as it has been for such quite a while.
