Vikings keen to keep pressure on Sligo

From the Dublin City Press Office

DUBLIN CITY welcome Kildare County to Richmond Park tomorrow hoping to pile the pressure back
onto Sligo Rovers with a victory over the Thoroughbreds (7.45pm KO).

The Vikings sent Sligo packing in last Thursday's top-of-the-table clash with City coming
out best on a 3-1 scoreline to reignite the Metros' title charge as the visitors' lead at the
head of the table was reduced to two points.

Debutant Aidan Lynch opened the scoring for Dublin with a headed goal off a Robbie Collins
corner, Collins added a second after rounding Sligo keeper John O'Hara and an own-goal
following good approach work by Dave McGill paved the way for three hard earned points with
Sligo scoring just on the half-time break through substitute Ger Carr.

On a night of driving rain City were well worth their win and in the process inflicted the
Bit O'Red's heaviest defeat of the season.

Meanwhile, Kildare accounted for Cobh Ramblers in Saturday's clash at Station Road,
Newbridge with Darren McKenna and Ger O'Brien netting for the home side and Davin O'Neill
scoring a late consolation for Cobh.

The visit of Kildare will see Dermot Keely return to the home dugout after serving his
suspension after the now infamous Limerick debacle, but with two wins against Kildare already
under their belts this season, City will be anxious to bag a maximum haul and stoke up the
heat on Sean Connor's men from the west.

Back in the frame for the visit of John Ryan's side is midfielder Paul Shiels who returns
after suspension while central defender Alan Keely should be available after recovering from
an ankle injury.

Definitely out is full-back Derek Pender who played against last Sligo Rovers last Thursday
with the aid of a pain-killing injection.

New signing Aidan Lynch is a natural fullback and should slot in for the absent Dedser.

The match is the only live eircom soccer action in Dublin tomorrow and City will be looking
to see the recent surge in support for the side continue to increase.

Said City's chief executive Ronan Seery: "We've been playing good football and are in with
a great chance of promotion. We've seen more and more fans beginning to turn up for our games
and that's a welcome trend.

"The players respond to a good atmosphere and hopefully we can start to spread the word that
we are playing a nice attacking brand of football and we are deserving of support of the
Dublin footballing public."
