I'm amazed that Ken Oman hasn't been mentioned once.
In my opinion he is the best centre-half in the league, easily.
My team would be:
Foley O'Flynn
Kearney Farrelly Hunt Baker
Murphy Oman Hutton Heary

Foley one of the top two strikers in the league :D :D :D
Agree on Oman though, very under rated player. If not for his injury proneness he would be rated alot higher.

Obviously biased here (due mainly to not watching many non-UCD games), but Tony McDonnell would have to be up there. Nice to see some recognising that on the thread though. I think the live game on Friday showed what a quality player he is. Surprised Ciarán Martyn hasn't gotten more of a mention.

There is no doubt in my mind that he is a very good player but the type of player you have described above sounds exactly like Neale fenn(Very creative playmaker forward type) but there is not a hope in the world that you will convince me that Beckett has been better than fenn this year and not to mention all the other strikers who do score regularly!
How many times have you seen Beckett play this season then?
This is a well intentioned, but ridiculous thread as almost all of us have seen far to little of every other team to be making an assessment. It ends up turning into an Eleven A Side Team of The Week-type selection by picking the best goalscorers up front and in midfield and defenders from the teams that have conceded the least. Anyone can read statistics.
Find me somone who has seen each side play at least 5 or 6 times this season and I'll listen to their opinion, otherwise its just a mix of bias and uninformed bluster.

Ive seen Derry 4 times this season and Beckett has been MOTM on each occasion. He hasnt scored many goals but his all round play is brilliant.

Sure.
This reminds me of the Kilbane at Ireland debates. He got panned so much that when he put in half decent performances the people went completley overboard praising him to compensate, the result, player of the year. What a joke, and by the same token, if Foley is one of the top two strikers in the league, or even one of the top two form strikers this season in the league, then something wrong.

So he's better than your hero Crowe now is he?
Stop talking sh-te, he has become a good player but is nothing exceptional.

SlashEd you don't know what you are talking about so why contribute to the Foley subject?

Your question was answered in my original post on this subject. He is in my team of the season so far and Crowe isn't. He is playing better than Crowe this season.

Despite the fact that for alot of the season he was getting incredible stick and not doing alot?
Or does 'the season' mean the last few days for you?
How anyone can think Foleys had a better season than, say, Mark Farren is beyond me.
Incidentally, Crowe has played less and scored more than Foley, and played better when he has played anyway.

Crowe didn't get nearly the same amount of stick and never got abused at matches. The proof is in the fact he's actually willing to celebrate goals in front of his fans.

He's made 22 apperences this season, that includes cup competitions. Enough to judge him on, he's easily been Shels best player so far anyway.
I haven't seen Derry this season so...

Foley getting stick has been a very distant memory for quite a while now Slash. Perhaps you're easing into nostalgia mode as your season slips away.
This is one case where the knockers were completely out of order, and shown to be so. Foley was difficult to watch at first, it's true, but he has earned respect the hard way, at a club where bouquets are not given out easily, and has maintained that respect for some time and built on it.
Domo's not just a goalscorer, he's a vital playmaker which is more than can be said for Crowe v2. Most Bohs fans wouldn't want a swap.

I'd rather Crowe in my team than Foley. No disrespect to Foley, I don't doubt he's quite good but I think Crowe is a great player and now he's fully finding his feet at Shels he's going to do well next season. He is a very neat player with good control and distribution. Strong on the ball and has a lethal finish. A far better player than his partner Jason Byrne if you ask me.
Dominic Foley is the Peter Crouch of the Eircom League.
Big, awkward and will score a few goals, especially if (when) the ball is pumped constantly into the box in the air.
Must agree he is playing better than Crowe this season.

We're talking team of the year so far folks.
Crowe at Bohs = international class and best in the league. Most 'deluded' Bohs vans would have this version back, no contest.
Crowe Shels edition = unmotivated and unfit for most of the year, with spectacularly inept misses, but now showing some promise. Leave to mature on $hels payroll.
Slash/ED

Team of the season also includes Foleys inept start that led to the abuse. Crowe actually has 7 goals and 4 assists, so he's both scored goals and set them up this season. He has been far from unmotivated and when was he ever fit? He's worked his arse off most of the time and in recent weeks has been outstanding,

Dont know why this is such an issue, neither of them would get on the Team of The Year bench anyway, theres about 5 strikers that are better then those 2.

good to see zayed getting a few mentions.
at the moment he's scoring consistently for a team which isnt playing well - in my mind thats more impressive than scoring for a top side.
it's just like jason doing so well for us when we were really awful a few years ago, and now the rest of the league has seen how good he really is
I think Zayed has very similar style to Jason Byrne when he started off.
Slash/ED
