View Full Version : Finn Azaz M Southampton b.2000
Off the mark. Goal today for Boro against Norwich.
Boro strike first and are top of the live table...
Norwich go to sleep at the back and Hayden Hackney strides forward before sliding the ball left to Finn Azaz to slam home the opening goal.
Josh Sargent had spurned a glorious chance to put the hosts ahead moments before.
City being punished for their profligacy.

It's great profit didn't they only pay 2 m8llion for him?
I think it was closer to 2.5M plus add-ons but yeah.

Similar fee to Kasey McAteer. Serious money being spent up at the top of the second tier in England these days. Nothing against McAteer but it feels like Southampton have signed the better player here.

This transfer has now been confirmed. Of the three big Irish moves in the Championship that are ongoing or have just been finalised (Azaz to Southampton for £12m, McAteer to Ipswich for £12m and Idah to Swansea for £7m), it feels like Southampton have gotten the best deal.

Dropped to the bench that after a slow start for Southampton. Another player not having a great season so far
Had a slow start at Boro too as I recall so not exactly panic stations. But be nice to see him kick on

Azaz scored his third of the season for Southampton in what is turning into a bit of a rout against Charlton. Manning with a goal as well. Bazunu seems to be fully restored to the starting keeper position as they recover from Will Still's disastrous stint in charge.
Two assists for Mikey Johnston as well away to league leaders Coventry. Seems to be a bit of a post Hungary/Portugal bounce in form for a few of the Ireland squad members.

And adds a second before half time. Would love to see Azaz playing in a top 5 league (not necessarily the Premier League) to see how he'd get on. When you look at the issues the likes of Roma have in creating chances and scoring goals, his ability to both score and assist should be sought after at that level.

I was shocked how long Southampton left Will Still in charge. Think they need to be careful before they turn into the next Stoke and being stuck in the bottom half of the championship for years.

Scores again - four goals and an assist in his last four club games now. Plus an assist for Parrott in Hungary in between of course.

His numbers at Championship level are fantastic, but is he capable of making that further step and doing it at the highest level?
I think he mixes the sublime with the mediocre for Ireland, sometimes giving the ball away cheaply. But he's in the team because he is the one player we possess capable of providing that killer pass that can really make the difference.

As I just posted on the other thread in relation to Cannon, he needs to be played in position. It's a waste of his ability sticking him out wide to fit him in the team. Either play him centrally or keep him on the bench.
In terms of his club football I'd love to see him on the continent in one of the better leagues.

Absolutely. In the Armenia home game, he provided Ferguson with a ball that he should've scored from and provided Idah with the ball for his offside goal.
Then of course, his quality goal chance passes in Hungary for O'Brien, Kenny and Parrott.

Like Bazunun - Azaz is another player who has benefitted from the sacking of Still - Eckert has played him in his proper position and he has responded well.

Goal and an assist already today and it's not even half time...of say there'll be some premier league suitors in January at this point.

That's what I'd call a technical assist - it was a five yard square pass under no pressure in the middle of the pitch. His goal was very well taken though.
He’s beyond proven at this level you have to say. Top contributor (Goals and Assists) at every club he’s played for in the Championship. I just love watching him play.
I’d ideally like to see him come up with a club though. Too many moves.
