Shamrock Rovers Future - A Declaration

Issued by the in-coming Shamrock Rovers Board of Directors

Shamrock Rovers now belongs to the people who cherish it most: the supporters. Therefore it is incumbent on us all to provide the club with a stable foundation for its future development, so that Rovers can be passed on to and enjoyed by its supporters for many generations to come.

Membership of Shamrock Rovers is open to each and any supporter who wishes to join. The club will operate on the democratic principle of one member, one vote. Shamrock Rovers will be run on a not-for-profit basis, so that the club will never again find itself in a perilous financial situation.

Any surplus funds will, of course, be reinvested in the club. Structures will be put in place to further the club's potential, with the aims of re-establishing Shamrock Rovers as a force in Irish football, challenging for national honours, and representing the club with honour, pride and dignity in European competition.

All Shamrock Rovers teams will be encouraged to play football in a manner fitting with the club's tradition. There will be a complete integration of Shamrock Rovers at all levels within the club.

The Eircom League, Under- 21s, Leinster Senior League, Ladies and Schoolboys sections all have vital and specific roles that must be both promoted and facilitated. Every player, coach, staff member and volunteer will be made to feel a valued part of the Shamrock Rovers family.

In Tallaght, Shamrock Rovers will play as full a role as possible in the local community. We will endeavour to make the club a key element of sporting and civic life in Tallaght, and the South Dublin region in general. Founded in Ringsend, resident in Milltown for over six decades, Shamrock Rovers' historical background must never be ignored nor
forgotten.

Along with Tallaght, these areas will be regarded as our three spiritual homes. In recognition of the loss of Glenmalure Park, our beloved former home at Milltown, black will become the club's third official colour, along with our traditional green and white hoops.

The squad number 12 will no longer by worn by any Shamrock Rovers player. Instead, that number will represent the club's supporters. Wear that number 12 with pride!

We Are Rovers!

Derby County did that a few years ago, registered the 12 as a squad player under the name "The Fans" so its nothing new really, John Gregory's idea iirc

Yeah, I knew about different clubs doing it, Derby were the only ones who I actually knew did it, and I said John Gregory's idea in relation to Derby County, not the idea in general, sorry

Nice touch with the No. 12 - regardless of whether it's been done before. Unlikely any other Irish team will do it now, as it'll seem too 'copy-cat', so fair play to Rovers for beign first to it.

Not so sure about adding black to the team colours in honour of Glenamalure Park though. That was 15 years ago lads - time to move on with a new dawn in Tallght - not cling-on to the past and its old hatreds. AFC Wimbledon didn't do anything like that when their club was taken away from them. They just got on with creating a new team and a positive, forward-looking future for themselves.
