2022 Playoffs

Am I correct in saying the promotion/relegation playoff is just one game at a neutral venue this year? Sure I read this somewhere a few months back but can't find the info anywhere now, and what is the date set for the game(s)

Yeah the format appears to be the same as last season based on the fixture list released by the league at the start of the season (last page of the link below)

The playoff structure of 4 FD and 1 PD is good. The neutral venue fixtures is a bad idea. The playoffs are an opportunity for high profile home games, especially for the First Division clubs. The clubs can bring about change on this one.
If Galway or Waterford get to take on Finn Harps or UCD, 3 home games in the playoffs is a good LoI promotional activity on the field of play. No gimmicks required.

100% agree a bumper home gate in one of these game can go a long way to helping a club through the 2-3 month close season. Also with one game it just takes one bad game or one slip up or momentary lapse in concentration and the game is over, a season of hard work gone

I’d give whoever came out of the first division the home game if it has to be one leg,end of the day it’s a second chance for the Premier division team after being crap all season…..

Apart from anything else, it only potentially leads to a crap attendance.

The likes of Harps v Waterford in Longford won't have any huge crowd at it. Where the same two legged ties would have packed out both RSC and Finn Park.

It's just another poor decision from FAI.

Sould the teams in 4th and 5th even be given this opportunity?? If they somehow made it through they would go straight back down and most likely be the team the top teams would improve their goal difference against.

It would be better if play off semi finals were 1 leg with 2nd and 3rd place teams with home advantage as a reward for finishing higher. Then you could have the finals as 2 leg home and away games leading to bigger crowds than a one off game in neutral venue.

It's understandable that not everyone is in favour of it. It keeps more clubs actively involved and everyone knows the rules at the start of the season.

If Waterford and/or Treaty host a semi-final and then a final, two home games will be a good opportunity for bumper crowds.

I think they're better as all being two leg games TBH, makes it more it less subject to random factors and everyone gets a big gate (important when your season is extended- having just an away game would mean considerable extra expense on a club)

All being two legs should just require the majority of clubs being in favour. It's the clubs who should push for this one.
