Pat Fenlon when interviewed about the signing of Curtis Fleming said that Shels now had 5 internationals in their squad.
Looking around the squads, there are at least 12 full internationals playing in the EL A few years ago, Pat Scully, Eric Lavine and Wes Charles were the only ones.
Are there more internationals than this playing in EL?

Depends how you define internationals (currently or past internationals) No disrespect to Curtis Flemming, but he hasn't played for Ireland in donkeys years, and Glen Crowe only played one game. Are they still classed as international players?? Or ex internationals??

Did Jason Gavin definitely play for Ireland? Thought he'd been on the bench but not actually capped.

Weso is still a Bray player but is on loan to a Russian club, he has played about 40 international games while with Bray, that must be some kind of record ?

I don't think either Gavin or McCourt got full international caps.

Our last two international players were Luke Dimech (Malta) and Sammy the Boogeyman (Morocco). Luke played around three years ago and Sammy was two years ago.

Prior to that, you'd be looking at the 4-in-a-row side in which there were several full internationals: Pat Byrne, Liam O'Brien, Jacko McDonagh, Peter Eccles, Liam Buckley. All of those players were capped for Ireland whilst playing with Rovers.

Think Rutherford is an England schools international, not a full international.
He's with Shamrock Rovers now

I know England are a bit short on left sided players, but I don't think Sparky ever got the nod!

McCourt is an U-21 international but I don't think he ever made the full team. He will at some stage (he's only 21 now) but not yet.

I stand corrected. Maybe it's the international cap the examiner wants Eur12,500 for? ;)

As well as internationals we have Hoolahan who's been on the bench for Ireland but not an international, yet.

Crowe played against Norway in 2003 and Byrne's cap was away to Poland in 2004 so they would be the most recent.

They weren't NEAR getting a look in before their caps, either. Doesn't mean they will never be capped again.

Yes, they showed potential when they were capped, but it was proved wrong obviously. They won't get chance again. Think about it, Alan Lee and Jon Macken are ahead of them :D

.. and will remain so until the end of their careers. At what point of your playing career do you change from being an international into a former international ?

You only become a former international when you retire from football and/or international football.

Dean Kiely retired from international football so is therefore a former international but Byrne and Crowe are still internationals until they retire.

Glenn Crowe played in the friendly away to Greece in November 2002 and ahd Ireland's best opportunity in a dour 0-0 draw in Athens.

McCourt is not a full international.

The last DCFC player to be capped was Liam Coyle against Chile in 1989.

The IFA have a habit of capping vaguely promising players at underage/U21 level quite willingly, in order to claim their scalp for the north over the south. Not to diminish Paddy's abilities, but that is the truth....

Paddy McCourt is a full international - he became the second Rochdale player ever to win a full International cap, when he came on as a sub against Spain at Windsor Park.

The first Rochdale player to get capped was Lee McEvilly, who beat Paddy by about 10 minutes - in the same match.

I know cos I was there.......................................

Norn Iron didn't draw - they were stuffed about 5- 0 on the night - and it was just prior to the World Cup in 2002.

Technically, the olympics is an U-23 comp. So I suppose it wouldn't be a full cap. But teams were allowed have 3 overage players. I wonder do they get full caps??
