why is stuff for sale on that site?????
mugs, tshirts, logo's etc. does that smack of something to anyone else?
quiet bad in my opinion that someone can cash in on something like this.
What is the point of this site?

It gives people an opportunity to show the world they are not afraid of the terrorist attacks. Not my kind of thing personally, but it clearly helps some people.

No not really. Alot of people did pull together cos they had no choice. But there will always be people who will exploit others in times of need. Hotels put their prices up, Bike shops made a fortune cos people were desperate to get out of the city, and worst of all, I bet the pick pockets had a field day  These are the minority, most people rallied round and did what had to be done to get on. Saw it yesterday. Walked from Oxford Circus to Angel cos you just couldnt get on a bus. No one was complaining or fighting all very calm, just getting on with walking home.

Paul, I don't think I've ever seen anyone jump to quite as many conclusions as you. One minute you're a hero (http://foot.ie/showthread.php?p=316911#post316911) that could have tackled a bomber single-handledly, even though you have absolutely no idea what kind of effort those three people went to do the same thing; the next you're investigating fraud on the Internet and discovering that the operators of werenotafraid.com are cynical opportunists out to take advantage of gullible fools that are really probably quite frightened by the London bombings, despite the intention of the site.
It's like you have this superhuman power to not even need to think before posting. I've never seen you do so anyway, although I've seen you have to retract statements and even apologise many times because you're in such a rush to appear butch and/or holier than thou. Maybe you could start trying that, having a wee think before you hit the repy button? At the very least, there's a good chance you'd stop p*ssing me off.
For the record, it's quite possible you could be right, but a quick search of the web reveals that the guy responsible is saying that funds will go towards the running of the site (which, believe me, will be expensive), with the balance going to the Red Cross London Bomb Relief Fund.
There you go, we call that "research". It took me a couple minutes. You should try it some time.

I know it's sad, but frankly I'm sick of journalists scurrying after Londoners for inane comments about how they survived the Blitz and they'll be damned if some Johnny Foreigner frightens them because they have the spirit of Blighty. I mean, noone would wish ill on anyone, but maybe they should get the electricity, gas, water and sewage systems shut down for 18 months, mass anarchy on the streets and suicide bombers every day of the week, and see have they the spirit of the average Baghdad citizen. There's nothing worse than someone who thinks they're a hero when they're a nobody.
Well that's one way of looking at it,It's also the wrong way of looking at it

conor i agree with ye on that in some parts. but at least its not as bad as the aul yanks, but you can see a bit of that coming over.
its the papers that are sensationalising it, most people dont give two monkeys and are just going about their daily lives. so dont get lost in sight thinking its the ordinary people living in london.
then again though, if there were fellas running around the kingdom with bombs on their back, surely then you would be a little wary?

I don't think many of us are under any illusions on that score Conor. We're just trying to go about our ordinary lives in peace, much as they are in Baghdad. But thanks for your compassion all the same.

Yes, that's right, you may be. It's all about perceptions though, innit? I live here, and whilst I might agree with your underlying point (whatever it may be - anything from media saturation to cultural imperialism, no doubt - I don't really care at the moment) you put it in such a way as to come across as a mealy-mouthed smug "I'm-all-right-Jack". And that's hardly the way to offer support, is it? It may not have occurred to you, but you engage with people who live in London, on here if nowhere else. Try a little empathy. We're scared just now and comments like yours really don't help.

My compassion drained after about 2 weeks of the bleeding hearts syndrome and news about London's horror 24/7. Life goes on. If it was a train crash or something, we'd have forgotten it the day after. Of course, I accept that events of yesterday and today are newsworthy and are going to see the matter brought up again. I accept that, because London is far closer to Ireland with far more Irish people, the events will naturally take up more soundbites than a similar event on the other side of the world. But 56 dead in a city of 10 million? I might be taking higher risks driving to work on Irish roads...
 Any respect i ever had for you has just dissolved in your past two posts. The words 'fúcking idiot' spring to mind. This is terrorism. I know a lad in my school, lost his dad. Do you think he feels like a fúcking hero? I found out that someone i hold dear was nearly involved. I can tell you now that i didn't feel like a hero at all. It still panics me just to think of it. We didn't ask for this, and certainly are not gladdened by it.
Your response beggars belief. Any life lost is tragic, to compare numbers and statistics is ridiculous. I'd request that you keep your mouth shut before you do any more damage.

The context in which i said that was different. KB was a man who went over to a dangerous country, aware of the dangers, yet was treated as a hero. These victims were leading normal lives, not working for extensive profit in Iraq.
I'm not gonna argue this with you mate, you're wrong. You don't live in London. Myself, PP and many others do. This is not something made up by the media. London has become more unified. Liam88 has expressed this in another thread. Once you've lived here for a while, in the current climate, I'll listen.

We express opinions every day on matters that may not directly impact upon us.
That's dead right, and you've clearly stated tonight where your sympathies lie. Here's the deal. We don't comment on the fact that you refuse to turn off Sky TV and then moan about over-exposure to the London bombings, and we won't comment on the fact that we worry about living with terrorists but refuse to up sticks and leave.

Thank you PP, you have just summed up exactly how i feel. I passed a comment to someone earlier about the attitudes of a few people to these attacks. Conor obvioulsy you are more than entitled to your views on the events in London over the past few weeks, but would you please realise that its not just 56 people out of 10million dying. its 56 people who died becasue all they did was get on the tube and go to work. This isnt some terrible accident like a train crash, this was a deliberate attempt to kill as many normal everyday people who get on the tube/bus as possible. As you said we should keep it on topic, so yes the whole point is that Londoners are afraid, it is scary to get on the tube every day, especially when the attacks start to impinge directly on your daily life. But sites like we are not afraid allow people like me, who are still a bit afraid to vent that anger, to show a united front. Its an outlet for people, and if it helps only one person than it gets my vote.

Good points well made. I particularly take your point about '...if it helps one person...', that is true.
Well thank you. Then maybe you can also try and take on board the fact that this is a very emotive topic for alot of people, in particular those living in London. Im sure you make valid points, but please realise we are living this now. We get on the tubes everyday. Everytime there is a security alert my family ring me panicked because they know i get a variety of different tubes every day all across london, and the relief when they hear Im ok, is only too clear. I am afraid, but I have a job which means getting on the tube, and as im incredibly stubborn  , Im not letting anyone dictate what i do through the use of violence and intimidation, so the tube it is as per ususal. :)

I think the learned gentleman is more than happy to subsume all of this in whatever "point" he wishes to make. Not that his self-aggrandisement counts for a single shît just now.
More swearing and self flegellation won't change my mind. Nor does attributing points that I never made (what IS that about upping sticks and did I make any such suggestion?)
No, you and I both know it's nothing of the sort. Don't even flatter yourself that for one second I would attribute one of these comments to you. Jofyisgod snapped before I did, that's all. So much for the diplomatic approach.
That said, such brave intransigence is really not worthy of confrontation. My only hope for you is that I never get the chance to be all high-and-mighty to Kerry(wo)men from this distance in return.

Y'know, Babysis, we see so much on TV over here - from the US stations to RTE etc - yet all we hear is the "stiff upper lip" comments and suchlike all the time.
It's only when I read your post, I realise how much it's affecting you all over there. It must be truly awful for you all - once again, Footie tells us the real story.
Just imagine the thousands of folks who are worrying about their nearest and dearest in London. Jesus, it's awful to read.

Sorry Dahamsta - didn't mean to offend anyone - just expressing my horror at the stress our friends are going through in London.
As I said above, Footie - whether it's football, politics etc - gives us the real picture - not the general media.
That is why this forum is so important which, of course, is ultimately to your credit.
Also, proves recent and widespread reports that the internet (bloggers/forums etc) is contributing to a downturn in newspaper readership as people are turning, more and more, to the blogs etc for better information.

Even in the midst of your difficulties you will be acutely aware that North Kerry elected a former gunrunner and IRA activist to Dail Eireann. You are not the only ones to know about certain issues.
Well, I'm a little less "emotional" this morning and can take your points with a little more balance. I know we don't have a monopoly on knowledge regarding "certain issues" but we do happen to be somewhat in the firing line at the moment. If the European centre of English-language broadcasting was in Killarney and devices went off there, I daresay we'd have Kerry's finest on TV at all hours. It's not though, is it?
I've no time for the Americanisation of the news - the crass and endless sensationalising of people's fears/emotions/recollections by way of producing copy - but step back and divorce this blanket coverage from the issues facing Londoners at the moment. That's at the heart of this. I'm not sure that we are any more enamoured of the chasing press than you are. We'd all welcome a little peace and quiet away from the constant gaze of the camera.

(well, to those who can get into their homes that is... ) Trust all is well with you and yours. The old sphincter wobbled on Thursday afternoon (even if I was safe in the LUL bunker) and I heard that my cousin was on the Edgware Road train (a bit of melodramatisation for Conor there) but only had to go to hospital for a bit of smoke inhalation, but apart from that I'm not too bad.
Reality is, as Sylvo said on another thread, people are using the tube because they have to. No one uses the system for fun even without these c*nts. It's falling apart at the best of times. Regarding the coverage of London, the same did happen in Madrid, Tel Aviv etc and this does get reported. Give me a quote that Madrid was cowered. They were out marching - upwards of a million - the following day. I suppose they all came in by taxi? There was a programme about the Tel Aviv bus service on the BBC earlier this year and likewise, neither the staff bottled it, nor it seems the passengers. One bus driver was back in work the following morning.
The person who is complaining about this can't have been bothered watching the news after the events in these other places. Perhaps it's because there isn't a Premiership team there. And it's not our fault if Fox News likes to wrap things up in simplistic stereotypes for its dim viewers. I'm sure the Toreador (sic.) spirit was used for the Madrileños post 11-M.
As for Conor  I thought we were free of him after his laughable Diva strop earlier in the year: Sadly not. :( Well If people just ignored him - by placing him on the ignore (eejit) list as some of us have done - then his own oxygen of publicity will cease. Unfortunately, as people continue to respond to his omnipresent SANCTIMONIOUS drivel, whose sole intention is to wind people up and provoke a reaction along the lines of 'f*ck off you ignorant c*nt' from even some of the moderators before responding with mock horror and the usual 'oh dear. Resorting to personal insults, swearing etc. Tut. Tut.' , my foot.ie viewing is continuing to be spoilt by having to read what this imbecile has posted.

Yeah Lopez - I usually watch "Faux" "News" for a laugh because they are so rediculous but their coverage of the London attacks plumbed new depths - cynical, hypocritical, Bush theme orientated etc etc etc and they definitely weren't funny this time. Al Franken takes the p!ss out of O'Liley, Sean Insanity etc on his programme on Air America - it's on 5pm to 8pm (our time) Monday to Friday on the net.
Thinking of all you guys over there - I've relations near Croydon and a couple of cousins in the police force over there too - thankfully they are holding up but under severe pressure as you can imagine.
