Rovers really cant afford to lose at Shels or we could be 9 points behind after the first series of games.
Momentum is everything and Derry have it.
Pats v Dundalk has all the side show elements but more importantly 3 points for one of them will push them up the table.
If Bohs back up the win at Sligo with another against Drogs the pressure will ease on 007.
6 points for Longford from two very winnable games will have them right in the mix.

Not hugely confident going into tonight. I think if nothing else Dundalk seem like they are a bit more settled in terms of how they play and that could end up being a key factor, as we're still somehow struggling with getting the balance right in midfield in particular. Get an actual midfielder like Ben McCormack in the 10 and Billy King back out on the wing for an underperforming Mark Doyle and I'd be a lot more confident though, we just have such an odd mix of great quality with a mixture of blundering inconsistency that is probably comparable to other teams in this area of the table that in turn makes every game a tough call.

I’m hoping the sideshow doesn’t become a distraction for Pats tonight. All about the 3 points.

Its absolutely is really only about the points. I do fear that there will be a greater edge to things than usual, mostly in the stands. Hopefully not to extent of anything unsavoury especially live on TV. I'd presume there'll be a hefty enough Garda presence outside the ground pre and post match.

Not a whole lot of quality at Richmond which isnt unexpected. Pats looking a lot hungrier with Dundalk showing the lethargy they did v Drogheda. Shame for the young Murphy lad to pick up that hamstring injury, at his age its something that will have to be worked on, unusual to be a persistent problem for a kid. The Simpsons 'Whacker Day' banner made me laugh. Dundalk a bit better as the game has gone on, has the feel that a goal either way could be enough. Leahy getting a torrid time at left full. Out of interest is there much difference between the dimensions between the pitch in Drogheda and Inchicore?
Doesnt seem like a 'sold out' game if that what it is with plenty of seats in the stand (maybe away sections) free and only a part of the away area behind the goal in use. Good atmosphere regardless.

A comfortable 0-4 latest score in Cobh for Waterford so far, poor game, but comfortale.

After the top 2 there’s a much of a muchness between the next 5 or 6 teams in the league, that Pats/Dundalk game was pretty uninspiring,3rd and 4th up for grabs from a few sides….

Interesting bit of needle there between O'Donnell and Mathews at the end of the game. Wonder what happened there? Mathews didn't seem to know anyway.

Never mind us, Darragh Burns deserved to win that game tonight. Frustrated not to win because I was expecting it to be a lot tighter but it felt like we had all of the few chances there were. Was surprised by how haphazard Dundalk were, thought they would have looked an awful lot more comfortable on the ball than they did.

Poor enough game overall. It perked up a bit in the second half. Im on holidays so watched it on the tablet and wasn't happy with Eoin Doyle. I've made plenty of excuses for him this year but those two chances were delivered on a silver platter. As for that yoke in the opposite dugout his estimation has stooped even lower after ignoring Mathews after the mstch. An unsavoury character.

Can only assume it's to do with what happened when O'Donnell left. He must think Mathews betrayed him in some way. But Mathews is ultimately a club employee and someone the owner specifically brought in so his loyalty isn't going to be to SOD.

Gas seeing people surprised that O'Donnell wouldn’t shake Matthews hand. That’s the exact personality and class of the man.

He did the dirt not Mathews. He had no qualifications to be in the job and AM proped him up. The man has no shame or moral fiber.

It’s a shame Pats we’re missing so many players tonight, Forrester in particular would've made the difference tonight you feel. Dundalk can thank the young keeper Shepperd for their point tonight, it was strange to see them come for a point but im sure they’ll be delighted with it. Weird to see a Dundalk goalkeeper waste time on every kick out from the first half despite it being 0-0, how the mighty have fallen and all that

Would have been absolute robbery if rovers hadn't won tonight , should have been 2 or 3 up easily at halftime.
Shels scored in a breakaway from a rovers corner. Scenes in the away end, you can't beat a last minute winner
. Could be a big win for us.

If you were in any doubt about how much of an utter scumbag O’Donnell is, his behaviour at the end of the match just confirms it. For two years Matthews protected him from himself and O’Donnell owes him an immense amount for helping him get the success he had. A lesser man than Matthews would not have offered his hand at the end of the game. O’Donnell’s response is despicable. The man is beyond contempt.

Pretty clear that court case hasn't gone away yet anyway. From what I know of Alan Mathews he always prides himself on being a professional in everything he does so whatever has gone on I doubt he set out to do SOD any harm.

Well you take your consolations where you can I suppose. If that keeps you happy fair enough. I’m disappointed we didn’t win after being the better side, and yeah, Eoin Doyle should have scored, second chance in particular was on a plate for him. Couldn’t really give a toss about you know who.

The behaviour of actual grown men re: the SOD situation is astounding. Folk older than the man himself having his back in every situation as if they were his wife and all. I was worried going into it that some of our dimwits were going to act up but thankfully that didn't happen at least.

Great bohs travelling support to Drogheda last night … brill to see.
I thought Drogs did well in the 1st half and was hopeful for the 2nd half but it then became a very Scrappy match and in second half I’ve never see us play so much high ball .. not sure if it was by choice or if bohs setup mean it was our only route .. either way not something I’m use to seeing us play and I hope it’s a once off.
Another point on the board for Drogs and. A point against bohs is always a good result … 8 spot for us this season has to be our target (can’t see us finishing higher given the resources of other clubs etc) and so far so good points wise.
Again well done to bohs supporters, great turn out for your side.

Harsh on Shels to concede that late cracker of a strike from Greene did enough until that to get a point out of that game. Rovers were really unimpressive with all that expensive quality in their starting XI, I can't see them doing anything in Europe if they are playing like that
Pats fans are the gift that keeps on giving in their delusional twisted bitter hatred of SOD. Mathews' treatment of some players in his time at Shels makes it laughable reading these ridiculous posts about poor Alan having to suffer trauma of not getting his hand shaken by Stevie

Agree with this and also disappointed to lose to a late goal. Rovers played really well for an hour or so. We were lucky to only be one down. Disappointed with the manner of the two goals we did concede though. First one, McEneff turns into trouble and gives the ball away. Second one, again we give the ball away albeit further from goal, O’Driscoll is too nice. Needs to take Mandriou down and hopefully we defend the set piece although that hasn’t been a strength of ours this season. Great strike by Greene.
Cant argue with the result though. Feared the worst after conceding the early goal. It won’t be games against title contenders that decide our season so onwards and upwards.
I think fair to say Dundalk were 'battered' 0-0 last night, two amazing saves in the second half by Shepperd, Pats really should have won this game, so very happy indeed with a point. We are really racking up clean sheets (not winning too much mind), this tweet sums up the improvement in defence, if we can get this right the rest will follow, still think 5th might be our best hope for the season.

Well that’s just not true is it. The majority of the time he’s talked about by Pats fans on here is when Dundalk fans bring it up. Over the last week it was even brought up in the attendances thread by Dundalk fans ffs

Haven't seen it back but at the ground I thought the second save was more of a poor finish from Doyle than a great save, albeit Sheppard still had to keep it out and obviously did well to do so. Was a great ball in with pace on it and a free header from about 6 yards out, I'd say he was fuming with himself that he even gave the opportunity to save it.
Definitely a frustrating one not to win, especially with Rovers away next week.

Yeah, I’ve watched it back, and it was really a sitter. From that range, he headed it straight at the keeper. Either side and it was a goal. Good save and all that, but as the cliche goes, Doyle will be disappointed with that.

Nobody knows what the reason was but I've always thought more of a person who can rise above grievances and shake hands or speak to a person they have little time for. Says a whole lot more about the type of person who ignores someone rather than passing themselves with what amounts to a nothing gesture anyway if it lacks sincerity. Personally i'd take pleasure knowing that i've gotten under a persons skin to such an extent!!

Your are correct there,i will never get those couple of hours back, took a ramble down from my humble abode in Clonsilla .It was simply awful stuff ,tbf at least toothless Bray made some attempt to get it down and play how ever miserable their efforts were.As for Treaty only words are ..horrendous muck.

Serious amount of free kicks scored by Will Patching over this season and last. I had recently started to think that teams should try to put a man on the line for them but after seeing Barry McNamee's attempt at that tonight it'll probably have to be someone that’s not the smallest player in the team!

Looked like Barry McNamee was the only player that realised that but unfortunately for him he was too small to stop it. An amazing player but he should have stayed at Derry city. Six points clear after 9 games. I'll take that.
2nd half we didn't turn up though until Akintude came on, didn't risk Fats on a terrible pitch either.
We'll move on to Shels in the Brandywell on Friday.
As i said x amount of weeks ago there were no good teams in this league last year, this year there is one. Not surprising to see the one good team dominate from the start.

for galways sake they are better off not going up this season and paying caulfield off. imagine what crimes he'll commit with them in the PD. haunted they got a pt yday , wexford are as unlucky a team ive seen in a while. ian ryan is a very good coach. hes doing a great job there. dobbs is a cracking player at this level too and in all honesty with the right move would do well in PD.
