Wexford put in a good performance in Ferrycarrig this evening but ultimately perished on the rock that is the Cork defence. With Len, Jack and Dobbsy all back available, Wexford had more attacking threat than last week at Bray, and started with Hunty, Paul, Joe, Jordan, Thomas, Jack, Aaron, Harry, Adam, Conor and Len. Decisive point in the game came as early as the fifth minute when Cork's Cian Murphy was found in too much space at the far post from a cross, and his downward header crept inside the far Wexford post to beat Hunty for 1-0 to Cork. Cork remained going very direct for much of the remainder of the half, but the back three of Paul, Joe and Adam proved up to the aerial task. In contrast, Wexford got the ball down a bit more, but still couldn’t make much impression on the excellent Harrington in the Cork goal. A header from Joe Manley, a volley from Dobbsy which was easily caught by Harrington and a save on the stretch by Harrington proved to be as near as Wexford could get to equalising. 1-0 to Cork at half-time.

Second half continued in much the same vein as the first with Wexford moving the ball reasonably well up to the final third but any delivery being mopped up by a solid Cork defence. Cork also went close on a couple of occasions when, on eight minutes, a shot was lifted over the Wexford cross-bar on the turn by a Cork forward and then Hunty did well to prevent a goal being scored from a Cork break. A couple of headers by Joe Manley proved to be the nearest that Wexford could get to scoring the equaliser with Conor Crowley doing well for Wexford when he came on as a second-half sub. 1-0 to Cork at full-time but Wexford’s general attacking play will achieve better results against defences which are not as strong as Cork’s. Just over 500 at the game.
