McEntee is on loan at Morton this season, and scored his first senior goal on Tuesday night, at 4:38 below

Two other things - the pitch is an absolute disgrace, and the penalty at 3:27 defies all known logic

Ah ~ the old goalkeeping punch but not from the goalkeeper. The penalty and shenanigans afterwards were also entertaining.

Having been injured in the Republic's U-21 game v Bosnia-Herzogovina last June, McEntee finally made his (very brief) debut for Walsall on Saturday, at the end of their win against Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup, First Round.

Happy 22nd birthday to Oisin McEntee, who made his first start for Walsall in their 2-1 win over Mansfield on New Year's Day. His team-mate and fellow Republic U-21 international Liam Kinsella scored for the first time in seven (!) years.

Walsall boss Mat Sadler has confirmed Oisin McEntee will be out for at least "a month" after the defender suffered a calf injury. After recovering from a long-term hamstring injury, McEntee had returned to the action in EFL 2 and played in Walsall's first four games of 2024/5. (Express and Star, 5 Sept)

Hearts are using the Brighton algorithm now to sign players, so maybe they have identified something in him. Though, having said that, Brighton themselves presumably used it to sign Eiran Cashin, which hasn't gone great so far, so maybe it's not the best at identifying centre backs!

Just put Hearts 2-0 up away to Celtic today, so still has a decent chance of an SPL winners medal!

Seems a massive stretch for Hearts to hold out right through until May. But what a crazy decision by the Celtic board not to leave O'Neill in the dugout for this one - they're playing their most likely title rivals and they bring in a new guy who has never managed in Europe before and he changes the whole formation on day 1 to something the squad have never previously played. Now he's on the back foot right from the start.

Can't imagine Celtic fans are all that impressed with the hiring either
On the flip side, if they win the league (as they should), this is Rangers three points further off a Champions League spot, which they'll hardly mind. Scotland in danger of losing that second spot from next season too

I didn't see the game, is he playing as a centre half or midfield? From glhis underage days with us he was a rugged centre half, it's a big progession if he has developed the athletic ability to be a midfielder

Seems to have been mainly playing right back this season, but listed as a defensive midfielder today. Probably effectively an extra centre back sitting in front of the other centre backs as they were away at Celtic Park and most domestic teams just try to shut up shop in that fixture.

Can't be too far away from international recognition now.
Cillian Sheridan the only previous Cavan native to pull on the green jersey I believe.

I'd say he's still a long way away in truth. He's primarily a centre back where there are probably 10+ others ahead of him. It's very unlikely that he's a realistic proposition in midfield for us. The poor standard of the SPL also needs to be taken into account. We've already seen the likes of Phillips and Ferry called up off the back of their SPL form and make little impact once in the squad, I can't see much point to bringing McEntee in.

Fair points.
Think he's played right-back/midfield this season for the team top of the league - not centre-half. Though that may well be his best position.
