What's the story with Shels having 2 matches same day a couple of times there?

I see the presidents cup between pats and rovers may also serve as the Champions Cup semi final. For a competition that’s only ever taken place once, the reputation of that tournament has well in truly been dragged through the mud since it’s inception

Id see it as a very practical solution. I don’t think the appetite is out there for two games between the sides in Tallaght before the season starts proper.

why are bohs doing all their friendlies behind closed doors? bizarre.

I’d agree with you there it definitely suits the clubs but from the competition organisers point of view, it’s basically 2 clubs saying yeah we’re not bothered playing in your semi final so one of us will just play the final. It’s essentially changing the format of the competition seen as the NI teams will presumably still play their semi, unless they decide to use the result of a league game between the two to decide who plays the final

It will be interesting to see how it’s presented. I’d say the compromise will be that the match will be labelled as the unite semi final & the winner will be awarded the presidents cup.

Yeah could well be that way. I reckon it’ll cause havoc with websites that record appearance/goal stats with some likely to double up for this game(s) :)
Given the history of the cup winners being a top 2 club in the league for the last 7 years, we might see this whole scenario more often going forward unless they permanently change the format again

Yeah it’s a strange one, even with covid regulations being currently at 50% of capacity, LOI friendlies tend to have an absolute maximum of 100 people when played on an Astro somewhere which most are. The week before the first game of the season when clubs tend to play their final friendly in their stadiums there’s healthier attendances but still well less than 20% of capacity

Keeping trialists as much under wraps as possible to minimise the chances of a raiding hoard from Tallaght, especially if strikers!?

Possibly, but given how small the LOI is, it’s likely that word would get out anyways purely from the opposition players even. A funny one that springs to mind from last season was pats playing cork in a friendly and naming 'trialist' in the starting 11 in their match updates, while cork announced Ronan Murray as a goalscorer for pats which let the cat out of the bag and forced pats to follow suit with their update :)

On the topic of trialists getting poached after friendlies Derry played Cliftonville in Solitude last year.
Cliftonville had a Gerard Storey in their lineup as a trialist who played suffficiently well to be signed within a few days - by Derry.

It's a very good facility down in Fairview. Harps played them in the FAI cup there last summer. It's clever the way they built their seating area into the side of the clubhouse.
Cobh 0 Dundalk 3, this evening.
Hoban (2) and Dan Williams new player on season long loan from Swansea with the other goal. Reports saying he had a very impressive game.

Probably one of the worst games of football that I've been unfortunate enough to attend, on one of the worst pitches I've ever seen. Wasn't of a lot of value to either side.

If the game wasn't a charity event it would never have been played on a hurling pitch, a pitch that we played a UEFA Cup Winners Cup game vs Odense on 30 years ago! Mission accomplished though, decent crowd and a nice bit of money raised for Keith https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-keith-provide-important-services-for-illness

One of the Cork goals was on twitter this morning, a free-kick from what looks to be 30yds, one of those Ronaldo style up and downers.

I haven’t seen any club provide a reason but a good few have announced BCD. Pats have done the same with the caveat of 'unless otherwise stated' so I’ve my fingers crossed a few of them will hopefully be announced as non BCD closer to the date of the game. Frustrating all the same

He was offered a pre season trial by Bradley, if he was offered a contract it was verbal and Dundalk swooped in...

Yeah, think you're right on Cork game, and I don't know any more than that. (Wasn't at myself). I think it was mostly first team in the second half, who lost 2-0 having come out 0-0 at half-time...
And not aware of any games before Shels

Pats 3-2 Bohs in abbotstown tonight. Jamie Mullens opened the scoring then Eoin Doyle equalised for pats for 1-1 at half time. Pats went ahead early in the second half through Kyle Robinson then Promise Omochere scored about 10 mins later. Mark Doyle scored the winner near the end with a very nice finish into the bottom right corner

Drogs 1-1 Derry. Typical friendly, more about giving players a stretch of the legs and lots of subs. In saying that, I really enjoyed getting back to a game and I am very happy with the potential of the signings by Kevin Doherty. I do think our back line still needs some strengthening/depth but overall I actually think we are stronger than last season as a squad.
Also a very decent crowd for a friendly - shows great interest in the town for the forthcoming season.

With the speed of the Irish legal system he will probably need to survive a full season to avoid that happening.

5-0 now. It's in Oriel too - and Bohs were a side you were kind of wondering where the goals would come from this year with Kelly gone.
Only a friendly though, as any Pat's fan will point out. :p
