View Full Version : KK at Left Full?

From 11-a-side.com so purely speculative:

Everton’s Irish international winger Kevin Kilbane could be asked to fill in at left back for the beginning of the club’s first tilt at Champions League action next month.

With Scotland international Gary Naysmith sidelined following an ankle problem, and Italian Alessandro Pistone ready to return to his homeland to join Lecce, the Toffees are without a recognised left back.

Manager David Moyes has recognised the need for a new full back – but if he fails to bring someone in before the third qualifying round transfer deadline of August 4th, Kilbane could be asked to stand in at left back for the two-legged qualifier against as-yet-unspecified opposition.

It'd be interesting to see how he does there.

Hopefully he proves to be effective enough to be a viable alternative to that donkey O'Shea in the left back position for future Ireland internationals.

Did well enough in the World Cup there, but probably more valuable to us in the centre?

I've always thought he's done well when I've seen him fill in at left back. Possibly of more value to us in the middle of the park alright though.

Harte was subbed off most games (for Quinn, I think), with Kilbane dropping to left back and Duff coming to left wing.

Kilbane started his career at left full at Preston, but moved to left wing shortly after that, I don't think he's ever been given a run at left full since then. If he did move there, who would replace him in central midfield - Holland?? Steven Reid??

Kav-Keane. Always wanted that partnership and this time it will be an all premiership pairing. :)

Didn't think of Kav, although he's hardly one for the future? If he continues as he is, I'd expect him to play through to the Euro 2008 games, and retire from international football after that. Could he take the Keane midfield enforcer role after the World Cup, and Keane's expected retirement?

I think Kilbane can do a decent job at left back but Kavanagh and Keane does not have enough energy and legs for me in the modern midfield. I dont think Kerr is going to tinker too much for the remaing 3 games.

Kibane tired badly the second half of last season and his form dipped as a result. If he can reproduce his form from before Christmas in the Autumn internationals we'll need him starting beside Keane in centre midfield.

I like Kavanagh and can see him doing well in the premiership but I cant see Kerr staring him against France/ Switzerland unless there is an injury problem in midfield.

The thing to do is swap O'Shea and Kilbane. Both players would be far more effective in their new position. That idiot Kerr isn't going to do it though.

O'Shea is a centre half it is pish everywhere else. Mind you, he hasn't really been great at centre half either but he needs more games. He plays there whenever Fergie plays the reserves (Carling cup, Fenerbahce away).

One of the Brtitish tabloids says Newcastle to bid £4m for O'Shea...

That Newcastle link was doing the round last season as well, they were linked with every centre half going at one point. Now Souness is desperate to get someone in to cover for Bramble, the same links are going to be rehashed, I expect a link to Daniel Van Buyten before the week is out.

It's already there - the NoTW O'Shea link was on the back of having a bid for van Buyten rejected by Hamburg!

LEFT BACK? NO PROBLEM (http://www.evertonfc.com/news/index.php?page_id=6973)

Personally, I'd feel a lot more assured with KK at LB, Finnan at RB, leaving centre-mid between Keane and Kavanagh/Holland. Let's hope he gets some successful experience there and that Kerr keeps an eye on it :o
