Hi there, please let us know what scorelines you expect for eL clubs in the first round.

Here's my guess:

1st legs:
Ekranas 1-1 Cork City
Glentoran 1-1 Shels
Longford 2-0 Carmarthen

2nd legs
Cork City 1-0 Ekranas
Shels 1-1 ft 2-1 aet Glentoran
Carmarthen 1-1 Longford

Shels 1-1 ft 2-1 aet Glentoran

Wouldn't have thought a Shels fan would go for that!

My guess -
Glentoran v. Shelbourne 1-2 0-2 (purely because Glens are so far out of season and have only played a Welsh team and two NI non-league teams since the Setanta ended)
Longford v. Carmarthen 2-0 0-0
Ekranes v. Cork 1-1 0-2

So it looks as though everyone (so far) expects Longford to win both legs comfortably............we know they are a solid team but they have been somewhat shy in front of goal in the last year. Anyway, best of luck to all eL teams.

Does anyone know if there is RTE Radio 1 MW coverage of the UEFA cup games? I had a look at their schedule and there's no sign of it on the FM band. There is a mention in the radio/sport section of a special for Shels match but no mention of the other ones  .

1st leg
Ekranas 1-1 Cork City
(after a eastern europe betting syndicate tampers with the flood lights)

Glentoran 2-2 Shels
(match called off after some crazy ass orange men decide its there god given right to march through the oval because some ancestor won a farting competion there 300 yrs ago)

longord 44- 69 Carmarthen
(longford decide they would be much better off as gaa team and welsh decide rugby is for them and they have a game of comprmise rules)

dont write any of the above off these matches after all involve eircom league teams

Exactly why I went for a 0-0 draw in the second leg...

Whatever about scorelines, I'd be expecting all 3 to go through really.

So would I, mind you I said that last year too :(

No offence to Longford but if you don't go through this time there'll be no place to hide.

Where do people get there confidence for the Cork game? These Ekranas boys look tough. I know Cork are good, but this one'll will definitely be hard.

I'ld say Shels 2 wins, Longford 1 win 1 draw and Cork a loss and a draw, with Shels and Longford going through.

I think most people (myself included) are just taking a punt on the Cork score - a combination of knowing the Langers are in good form these days, and a mild-degree of scepticism regarding the strength of the Baltic leagues.

Will be very interesting to see how they do though.

No excuses for Longford though - I wouldn't be surprised if they out-number the home fans in the Welsh leg of the game, for feck sake !

Did a bit of digging around on ekranza and the Lithuania league in general, its rated 3 points higher than Ireland, also these dudes seem to be running away with their league, played 20 won 16, lost 1 drew 3, they seem to be very mean at the back and bang in the goals - 48 or something -

Plus its going to be roasting over there aswell i would have thought

They reached second qualifying round last year

Here is a comparisson of both sides (http://www.soccerway.com/results/compare_teams.php?CountryA=Lithuania&CountryB=Ireland+Republic&TeamA=1403&TeamB=1185)

This is how wafa rate each country (http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/data/method3/crank2005.html)

Well, it'll be close I'd say, Cork might do it though. Judging by that comparison, Ekranas can score more. They beat someone 8-0 three games ago, let's hope Cork can get a result away and win at home.

FBK Kaunas - league winners the last six years - had a tough game against HB Tórshavn today - won 4-2 away in the end, but twice got pegged abck to within a goal. HB aren't a bad team (having watched their reserves! :p :o ), but they never play on grass (their league is astro) and rarely win in Europe, so that's not a great indication of their league's strength (even if it just one match).

There's always a huge gap between top and bottom in the former Russian bloc leagues, and in particular the Baltic leagues. You're far more likely to see results like that than, say, Cork putting five past an eL team...! :(

Edit - OK, the team they beat are fourth in the league...!
