There was a farcical (but funny!) incident at the Cross today when a young fella from the crowd stopped the ball from rolling out of play by the corner flag on front of the Shed. The ref had to drop the ball to restart the game AND also do a bit of finger wagging to the small fella!

The question is... Where were the stewards? They may not have been able to stop him from doing what he did but surely it is the duty of the steward to be on the spot to make sure it doesn't happen again etc.

I looked around and the only steward I could see was the fat curly haired guy with the green jacket and the head-piece, and he was over by the burger van chattin' to some punter! Presumably he's getting paid for this?

This is just one of the many things that the club need to sort out before next season. We have to get our house in order. Some more are mentioned in this (http://www.peoplesrepublicofcork.com/sport/FairWeatherSupporter.html) article.

While not getting to that many home games these days i get the impression the stewards only think of even trying to do something when theres biggish crowd or when theres some away supporters.

The only constructive thing the stewards seem to do is "protest" the ref at the end of the game. When they do this they help prevent any trouble or embarishment to the club.

They seem to think theres no chance of trouble at the games versus the likes of Monagahn so just lean up against the walls having a chat & watching the game. I would have thought stewarding was as much about prevention than reacting to "trouble"?

I think there was a guy over in the corner where the lad kicked the ball... (it was funny though !)
After it happened, he stood next to the smallies sitting on the wall, but after a while he disappeared.....:)
The thing is, is that there is really f*ckall to do at matches like yesterday, but if City are paying them they should at least look interested.....

You have to admit though that that was one of the funniest things to happen all year, possibly more enjoyable than Mooney at half time. Can we get a poleon that I wonder? ;)

If the stewards got off their asses and did what they were paid to do, there wouldn't be any of this crap. I remember a club official (now departed) telling the supporters club that he'd like to see us involved in trying to stop that kind of crap- me and a few others went after a fella who threw a bottle the next game and got a load of fanta over our heads for our trouble, while the stewards sat on their asses and smoked. They are wasters, and the sooner it's dealt with the better, because some day there'S going to be a serious incident and someone will get hurt. The guards are pathetic in their "efforts" too.
