Strange to stick by him and then cut him loose unless he genuinely is just leaving of his own accord. Maybe though it was seen that he was capable of doing a job in the 1st Division, saving a few quid, but out of his depth with a Premier Division budget. Its been doing the rounds that Perth is on his bike from Oriel to Tolka - whether he sees out the remainder of the season at Oriel depends on other matters.

Always thought Morris was overrated Shels should never have been relegated with the squad they had last year. Shels fans were also laughing at us signing Gary Deegan and Dan O Reilly but both have been stand out performers in the league this year. Good coaching goes a long way, especially in this league.

he would have been sacked at the end of last season if he hadnt had a contract.
Doyle probably thought promotion was a done deal with anyone at the helm

Some LOI Twitter Page, who in fairness seemed to have the early scoop on Morris leaving, are now saying Perth is on his way to Shels. The Tea Lady is on her way to Bohs. Was tempted to make the move based on the range of Herbal Teas we drink at the club.

Going back to England to manage there I think.

Why the speculation about Stephen Bradley all of a sudden?

With Rennie Shels assistant surely they’d be looking at him as number one candidate for the job?

Damien Duff is expected to take the job apparently.

A Damien Duff and Joey O'brien dream team by the looks of it.

Didn’t want to start a new thread on it but Daire Doyle is gone from Longford too by 'mutual consent'. Really didn’t see that one coming, was only listening to him being interviewed on Con Murphy & Conan Byrne's podcast earlier and he certainly didn’t come across as someone that knew they’d be heading for the exit door 2 days later, quite the opposite in fact!

Yeah I only heard the news 15 mins ago I didnt hear much talk at the game friday but theres a huge lack of interest as fans are staying away cos of him. Names I have heard linked are Kevin Doherty and Gary Cronin.

Fans are staying away because we're losing and we've been relegated. How much of the blame for that you can lay at Daire's door I don't know. He clearly didn't have any money to spend so getting relegated shouldn't be much of a surprise.

Duff confirmed as shels manager, I’d say he’s raging he didn’t wait another week and he might have got the bigger job as Longford boss

After initially 'turning down approaches', he now 'can't wait to start.' It's all a bit odd - and what''s he doing in a library?
Best of luck to him though. We all like Duffer.

It will be interesting to see how Duff does.
Any time I've listened to him on TV, his analysis is always the most bland and uninsightful stuff you'll ever hear.
He had an amazing career at the top level for so long, but he seems to understand very little about the game, or at least, he's unable to communicate what he understands.

I think he tended to be argumentative rather than bland, not in a hissy fit talking over people manner though. The way he sat back in the chair wagging his pen about amused as he looked like he was lording it over the studio. It is good for the league imo, depending on how he does it could be a boost to Shels profile and support. I cannot wait for post match comments on refs, pitches, appeals, dugouts or whatever as he is on the feisty side.

Had a habit of getting himself in trouble on the sidelines at underage games. If the same follow, and given his propensity for quitting and moving on to something else quite quickly, I'll be very surprised if he's not the first manager to resign/be sacked next season. That said, have only heard good things about his coaching skills and knowledge.

I was talking to a big Celtic fan yesterday and he said Duff was highly thought of at Celtic, and their decline in form happened around the time he left. Being a good coach doesn't translate to being a good manager, and of course just because a change in form happens when a coach leaves doesn't mean the coach leaving was the cause of it. But still, he was way more positive about Duff than I had expected tbh.

An interesting appointment and good for the profile of the league I’m sure. Whether it is good for Shels time will tell.

Duff turning down the job initially before reconsidering mightn’t fill you with much confidence but only time tell I suppose…

From his interview on the news I reckon that training mornings could have been the sticking point.

I dont know if initially turning down the job is a thing really, its pretty usual for some horse trading to happen, budgets, FT/PT, appointing his own back team and so on. Shels approach, he looks at whats on offer and says no, they come back with a revised offer and he takes the job. He is both putting his neck on the line and he is getting his first chance as a head coach, mutual benefits but he is going to want to have a pretty decent set-up to give him the best chance to build on his rep as a coach. It wouldnt be a surprise if one of his demands was to do with youth player development, eg suggesting who fills his boots with the U17s.
He will be a big fish in a small pond and will be under scrutiny straight off so arguably a tougher job compared to a first managers role at the lower ends of English football and would be under the radar, where other high profile former internationals have cut their teeth, kicked on or failed without a fuss, bit like an Edgar Davids at Barnet

Good for him, hopefully he will be back in the LOI for next season, he would be well worth another shot at the First Division title for the likes of Longford or Bray

I dont know what to think about Morris.
He got a Shelbourne side relegated that should never have been relegated , then got them promoted when anything else would have been abject failure.
Hard call to sack him having said that

Think Morris is seriously over rated . Got relegated with a squad that never should have gone down. Then people were saying Drogheda would go down this season as we signed a few from them. Dan O Reilly and Gary Deegan were brilliant this season with some good coaching behind them. Anyone would have got Shels promoted this season.

That's the way I'm leaning and when you consider the owners sacked him having watched him get them promotion its probably hard to argue for him as they would have seen him in action.

I had my doubts whether Morris' style of football if it could progress Shels into the top half of the Premier Division and it seems the board has the same viewpoint going into 2022 but it's hard to dispute after two First Division title wins out of two attempts if you give him good squad he has it takes to win the division though the football won't be always the most easiest on the eye

Interesting take from Damien Duff on shelbourne being a giant. Who knew that was the word we should be using to describe a club that have avoided relegation from the top tier in 1 of the last 15 seasons :)
Also he appears to have had one sherry too many over the off season seen as he’s now interrupting journalists to correct them despite having accurately quoted him
