In contrast to the defeat for WYW U19 today, it was the Wexford men’s U19 who managed to turn things around in Ferrycarrig at half-time this afternoon, as they managed to gain all three points against a combative Kerry U19 side. Wexford started with Sean Martin, Andy Farrell, Nicky Leonard, Donal Porter, Raveli Kilonda, Cathal Dowd, Tyler Dunphy, Luke Scanlon, Nils Lukaku, a new signing and Aaron Roche. Kerry sat back in the first half and forced Wexford to try and break them down which the home side found difficult. An early Andy Farrell free was narrowly wide but, although Wexford had most of the ball in the first two-thirds of the pitch, the deep-lying Kerry defence made it difficult for the Wexford attack to create any meaningful chances. In fact, it was Kerry who went ahead when, from a rare corner, the ball broke to a Kerry forward who finished well for 1-0 to Kerry. Not much happened from then until half-time with Kerry a goal ahead.

The weather deteriorated steadily throughout the second period but Wexford played better as they put the ball earlier into the Kerry penalty area. A corner for Wexford was headed home by Donal Porter to put the home side on equal terms. Wexford had forced more than equality at this stage and, after the ball pinged around the Kerry penalty area, it was Aaron Roche who finished neatly to put the home side 2-1 ahead. Kerry then missed a good chance from a free header and a penalty shout which wasn’t given before Wexford sub, Michael Mackey, ran from one end of the pitch to the other following a Kerry corner before not being able to keep his final shot on target. 2-1 to Wexford at full-time with Andy Farrell, Nicky Leonard and Tyler Dunphy impressing for the home side.
