Leeds United captain Paul Butler is expected to put pen to paper on a new contract at Elland Road that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2007.

Butler, who joined Leeds from Wolves a year ago, had been the subject of a £200,000 bid from Cardiff City earlier this summer.

However, Leeds have moved to keep the once-capped 32-year-old in Yorkshire.

A Leeds spokeperson said: “There was interest from Cardiff but it was just turned away. Leeds are not interested in selling Paul Butler and he’s just in the process of signing a new contract here anyway. His new deal will keep him here until 2007 and he has agreed to sign it.”
