Time for some leadership

As Shelbourne fans woke up to the fact that their club has won the eircom League Premier Division, the normally ecstatic feeling of championship success was missing – kinda hard to be happy when the main opposition has just been docked 15 points.

But as everyone knows, this whole sorry mess will not go away. There will be further revelations and in all likliehood, more points lost.

The biggest question now for all concerned is about leadership. Michael Hyland wears two hats - President and Chairman - and with that combination, it is reasonable to expect him to lead from the front.

Hyland has presided over domestic football for many years and while paid administrators come and go, he stays where he is and on the current registration debacle, we have heard almost nothing from him.

Leadership is so desperately needed at the moment and that job usually falls to the President of an organisation. Hyland is the president and he's the chairman as well - that's double the responsibility.

So here’s a few questions to ask Mr Hyland.
1. What are your plans to fully modernise the eircom League’s administration?
2. Why was eircom League registration process allowed to lapse so badly?
3. Does the eircom League employ enough staff?
4. What IT systems are in place to cope with administration and if they are not adequate, what plans have you to replace them?.
5. How is it that St Pat’s ended up with a clean bill of health after the Paul Marney affair but were docked 15 points for Mbabazi?
6. Did someone tell Waterford United that they could use Noel Hunt AFTER he went back to Rovers to play in a League Cup tie and if so who was it?
7. Do you accept any responsibility for the current difficulties or indeed any of the problems experienced during your time as President/Chairman?
