Finally - a decision. St Patrick's Athletic have been deducted 15 points and fined €1270 for playing Livingstone Mbabazi illegally for five games at the start of the season.
A long-awaited statment from eircom League Comissioner Roy Dooney detailed the investigation into the affair by Michael Hyland, Declan O Luanaign and Donal Cowther.
The conclusions were as follows and are taken from a long and detailed statement from Dooney.
St Patrick's Athletic FC in registering the player Chalres Mbabazi Livingstone, for the season 2001/02 only on the 12/09/01 while having played that player in the following games....(v Galway, Shebourne, Derry City, UCD, Cork City) clearly breached Rule 16(a)
The officiers of the eircom League have requested the Board of Control to immediately organise an investigation of all player registrations for the current season and where it is found that any player who has played in any eircom League match, in violation of Rule 16(a) then the rules in full shall be applied accordingly. :D
