the last team to make their way to the showgies in series 2,the only 1st div team who havent played there yet this season finally do.

athlone,on the back of a poor loss to kilkenny will be looking to get their disappointing season back on track against in form rovers

tim mc cann is unlikely to debut due to lack of match practice...expect him to play vrs lincoln city tuesday.

murtagh could debut

mc tiernan is a doubt after missing last week

new prices and a healthy lead at the top of table should bring a big crowd...hopefully pushing 2000

prediction:1-0...3 points,ill be happy

Where's the pre match pints lads?
Judging by our usual travelling support we'll have a whopping 8 supporters
on our bus! We still managed to outsing every home crowd we've come up
against though :D

Athlone will come to get a point and so will defend from the start.
If we can get an early goal(before 20mins)they will have to come at us and then the floodgates will open.....
Im going for 3-0 Rovers,Alvarez gatting at least one,

I was talking to Murtagh in Monaghan and he was saying that he will be playing against Athlone, he was supposed to be able to play against Mons but the league rules were that only players on loan could of played but he is definetely eligible to play this Saturday ;)

Athlone Town are always a very hard team to beat. They will do their best to try to stop us playing football. Hopefully their will be a good crowd at the game 2,000+ and with the Shed making lots of noise we should win

Think 4-1 to the Rovers, would also like to see O'Grady and Burns scoring, they really deserve a goal alright.

i think we have to win games like this if we are going to win the league.athlone are down to second from bottom now and kilkenny beat them last weekend.i think we'll do it though.....2-0.

p.s. i think a lot of ye are being harsh on that galway guy.they are on a good run and seem to have improved a lot.id say the cup games against cork gave them a lot of confidence and they could still challenge for second place.

I think that Rovers will win 3-1 comfortably - with the Athlone goal being a late consolation.
Hopefully there will be a few more goal of the season contenders from Rovers.

This is what Aertel say but it doesn't mention why:

Stephen Kelly has stepped down as manager of Athlone Town Football Club.

Assistant manager Padraig Dully, who was also manager of the under-21 side, has also stepped down.

Paddy O'Reilly will take charge of first team affairs for this Saturday's eircom League Division One clash away to Sligo Rovers and will take control of the under-21 side.

:) 2-1 to rovers,as everyone knows a wounded team(there manager and asst both walking away yesterday)can sometimes play out of their skin,so rovers will have to be wary, still cant see Athlone getting anything from this one.

That could make a lot of difference, please not Duddy!!!!

Rovers should win though on current form and with the problems Athlone have had during the week. Maybe 2-1?
