Wasn't sure if it was even worth starting an U18s thread this season, with Irish youngsters not able to sign for English clubs until they're 18 but noticed that Cian Kelly Caprani scored for Derby against Middlesbrough: https://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/2021/08/under-18s-get-202122-season-underway-with-3-0-win-at-middlesbrough

There's a few more, but they could be the very last to play at this level. Almost all players in the U18 games at the weekend were English
Tommy Fogarty at Birmingham
Aaron O'Reilly at Aston Villa

Paddy McCarthy is coaching the Palace U18s as well, former U21 player Ken Gillard is in charge of the Arsenal U18 side, and former U19 player Travis Binnion is coaching the Man United U18s

Wow, this thread has really been little-used this season but there is one player whose recent performances are worth noting. Calum Kavanagh scored a brace for Middlesbrough against Sunderland today (https://www.premierleague.com/match/70326/u18-premier-league/2021-22/sunderland-v-middlesbrough), having scored an hat-trick and being credited with an assist for their other goal in his previous game against Liverpool (https://www.premierleague.com/match/70292/u18-premier-league/2021-22/liverpool-v-middlesbrough). He's already had a taste of U23 football, with some success, so surely it won't be long before he moves up to that level on a more significant basis.

Its a great point about this been underused compared to other seasons. Its a reflection of brevity as everyone knows. Previous years all our under 17s would have moved over instead of been here or in Italy or France. As a side note Its very difficult ( for me anyway) to get information about youth players who are based abroad to see how they are getting on. For instance sotona at nice what's going on there I can't seem to find any info about him

I thought I saw something on twitter about Sotona getting a squad number, but I can't find it now
Here's his profile on the nice website

Brighton's run in the FA Youth Cup, with a 2-0 win over Charlton recently - Evan Ferguson and Andrew Moran were their goalscorers - Leigh Kavanagh and Killian Cahill were unused subs - Ferguson was replaced for the last 20 minutes by Joshua Duffus - any relation to U21 international Courtney Duffus? If yes, does he qualify for us? https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/news/2477348/albion-reach-fa-youth-cup-quarter-finals

Love seeing these tweets from Rocco Vata's mother. God help the poor woman if he ever defected to Scotland or Albania!

Still mad to think Rudi Vata's son is playing with Ireland. Albania will probably try their hardest to get him to switch. They've tried it a couple of times with Zefi according to Stephen Carr. Similar it will probably be the same with Justin Ferizaj, and his younger brother Richard who some say could be better than his brother.

Ferizaj is a little baller - if the brother is better... One of the most endearing footballing memories of last year was at an ireland u17 game, his father, thick Albanian accent, absolutely bollocking the ref for not booking a player for a genuinely bad tackle on Justin.

Vata's mother and grandmother are mad for him to play for Ireland. His mother is quite vocal about it on twitter.

It's all a moot point anyway as Celtic will deliberately sabotage his development being Irish.

U19 defender Sean Grehan seems to be on trial with Crystal Palace, played for their U18 team earlier against Brighton
Was listed as "unattached" in the U19 squad for the elite round qualifiers in March: https://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/mu19-mohan-names-squad-for-elite-phase
