Galway United’s loan move for Longford Town striker Eric Lavine was the highlight of a busy opening day of the eircom League transfer window.

The transfer opportunity for clubs came into place on Friday and will last until July 31st next.

Several clubs have already moved to add to their squads, with loan deals the order of the day on Friday.

Galway have brought former Tribesmen striker Lavine back to the club after the Bajan star fell out with Longford boss Alan Matthews. He could make his debut against Kildare County on Saturday night.

Alan Cawley joins Longford on loan from Shels, while Brian McGovern moved to Bray from Longford Town (he spent the first three months of the season on loan at Shamrock Rovers).

Former St Patrick’s Athletic and Nottingham Forest striker David Freeman has joined Dublin City on loan from Drogheda United and could make a quick impact for the Vikings against Cobh Ramblers on Saturday night.

In other loan moves, Longford-born striker Adrian Murphy has gone from UCD to Kildare County, where he replaces Sean Francis in the Thoroughbreds squad; young St Patrick’s Athletic pair Philip Sheppard and David O’Connor have joined Kilkenny City; and David Tyrrell moves from Shelbourne to Bray Wanderers.

In a permanent deal, Jimmy Fyffe, Limerick’s second string goalkeeper, has joined Waterford United, where he will battle it out for a first-team spot with Packie Holden.
