Goalkeeper Robbie Byrne, who joined Kildare County on a season-long loan deal from Drogheda United at the start of the year, has opted to sever his ties with the Station Road club in order to pursue a new career in the Gardai.

The former Carlisle United keeper impressed for Kildare during the early part of his loan stint, but having decided to join the Gardai will be unable to give the necessary commitment to the Thoroughbreds cause for the remainder of the season.

Carl Donnelly, who has been promoted to the first XI in place of Byrne over the past three weeks, will continue between the sticks for John Ryan’s side, with former Dundalk and Bohemians keeper John Connolly serving as back-up.
