View Full Version : Shels fans debate

I'm going to argue that a Bohs fan mentioning European away attendences makes me laugh more than you've managed to type there.

And our crowds are pretty much equal if you check the attendence threads, but don't let reality hit you, Bohs fans rarely do.

We've brought over 1,000 to a European away game before, have Bohs thatguy?
Rearrange these words into a well known phrase:

Swallow
Summer
One
Doesn't
Make

At least Derry's bandwagon fans in the late 80's managed to last a few seasons before they took to their barstools again :D

Are you crazy??? Do you even go to Shels games? Bohs attendances dwarf Shelbourne's, and Bohs don't have to go around industrial estates handing out free tickets to bemused Europeans to fill seats.

Of course in your make-believe world of a Shelbourne Football Club with decent attendances the above probably doesn't happen!

Shelbourne's crowds are an embarassment to Irish football. With all their difficulties even Shamrock Rovers can still pull in more punters, and fair play to them.

You accuse me of make believe yet ignore the fact that our attendences have never been far apart, check the attendence thread, all Shels and Bohs numbers there are offical bar the latest match, the Longford game. Rovers don't even get near enough, you're talking complete and utter sh*te.

ThatGuy

Yeah the biscuit tin method is a great way of measuring attendances. The day Shels release official attendances is the day that pigs fly. Everybody knows what kind of dealings go down in Tolka and why the attendance figures released will never be accurate.

Slash/ED
30/06/2005, 10:08 PM
Ah, so you know better eh?

Are you accusing Shels of lying about their attendences by exaggerating them? Is that Bohs fans latest shyte, Shels are feeling generous so we want to pay more tax?

ha ha ha etc etc

Pigs must be flying, as Shels have released offical attendences all season.

Unlucky.

You must be fairly thick if you can't think of the financial benefits in Shelbourne FC giving exaggerated attendance figures

Unlucky.why do shels allow people to pay in on the gate instead of using tickets as they're meant to (like the Licensing deal says) so?

Yeah because paying more tax is fun and that's what Bohs fans love about us.

You're talking shyte, we both publish offical attendences, our attendences are almost identical. Unlucky.

Something to do with the turnstyles we have being allowed under that very licensing deal.

Bohs number have decreased from recent years but i've never been to Bohs game with 1000 people whereas have bene to numerous Shels games with those figures.

Bohs v Shels = 500 shels fans
Shels v Bohs = ??? Bohs fans

Slash/ED
30/06/2005, 10:42 PM
You obviously, much like their support, didn't goto their relegation play off match.

You're right, Shels problem has been the smaller games have gotten far less home supporters than the bigger games, so our crowds go up and down. I'd say that's down to the fact we've played some awful football to watch at times recently, though for friday games this season the crowds haven't decreased too much at all so it's improving it seems. Monday games we get awful crowds though.

I thought there was no tax levied on entrance fees to sports events in the South - unlike the north....?

It's different here, I'm not 100% sure on how it works but it's still not in your best interests to exaggerate attendences. It's something to do with your end of year profit they tax you on, which entrance fees is part of, but I'm not sure.

If shels are breaking rules (and i think they are) then that means they gain an unfair advantage over other clubs. So yes, it does matter

There is no arguing the fact that Shels are disgracefully supported

You'll never convince some people, Slash.
I'm a Shels fan. I've seen Bohs once this season. I have no idea what kind of crowds they get for other games. The only idea I have is from the published attendances, and, for Shels they seem reasonably accurate, so I'm assuming they're accurate for Bohs too.
I'm assuming that a Bohs fan wouldn't have been to Tolka more than once or twice this season, so what is he going on to see our published attendances must be wrong?

$h€l$ are a joke!

We outnumbered them in the cup last year and they didn't bother to produce a programme. All the media got was a piece of paper with the teams.

This is supposed to be our country's biggest club.

1) There's no point giving Shels fans here shít over attendances - we go to the games and support our club - just like everyone else.

2) What does it matter to anyone else how many of us go? Sure we'd love more, the entire league would, but there's nothing to brag about if you get an extra 200 through the turnstiles, wow, 200 more people you don't know turned up, paid, and left. Amazing! (I haven't compared figures, all I know from this thread is they are "similar").

3) There's nothing to gain from Shels by exaggerating attendances, Cork will be stung for loads on their end of year taxes pulling in 1.5m people per game and all that.

4) Isn't it quite sad to be arguing over "more people go to watch my team than your team, nyah nyah nyah-nyah nyah" ?? :)

No team here has enough supporters regularly going through the gates, and childish bickering like this isn't going to solve ANY clubs attendance problems (except Bohs, because they say so). ;)

I hate getting caught up in this stupid debate! Every single club has shít attendences bar none.

Every single club has roughly equal attendences on average, relevent to their league of course.

Bohs fans, did you count the shels fans that occupied the Jodi stand as well as the connaught st end? Didn't think so, although it was a woeful turnout!

Bohs are just J€a£ou$!

I know most of the shels fans on here, they as I go to every home game we can, so therefor you're preaching to the choir here.

Mods please lock this pointless thread??? Its boring now, you're as bad as the barstoolers who slag us for going to these games!!!

I prefer to take a qualitative approach :)
This way, it's fair to observe that when you are playing the two-in-a-row giants of the Premier Division from a mile and a half down the road, you might expect them to turn up in numbers and have some impact. But their 700 or so on the Connaught St side looked and felt like half that, and there were so few, if any, in the Jodi that the first I knew about them was when I read it online. It was a pathetic display for a club that's had such success on the field and is the darling of our admittedly misguided sports meejiah. Looking at some rather duboious attendance records does nothing to change that.
Whatever else we might say about them, and their problems with anger management, at least the hoops make an impression and challenge for a response. Proposed ideal solution from a Bohs viewpoint: relegation of shams; enforced migration of sham support to Shels to give them some backbone; induction to incorporate compulsory choice of peace jab v. lobotomy operation.
Of course, we can shortcircuit the whole debate. Whatever about numbers, it's quality that counts, and Bohs fans are naturally better.
ARE SO! :p

Bull$hit, $hels get around 2000 if they are lucky, city get 3000-5000, derry also have very good attendances.

I know cork get large attendances maybe because it is the only team in the hole city which has a population of 350,000. But dubl!n has a pop. of around 1.2million and have 5 teams in the priemier division, split this by four (excluding UCD.....SORRY) and it is the same pop. to a team as Cork have. I know this is unfair dividing up the pop. of the city but you should be getting attendances of over 4000
