Big game for Bohs , win and they close the gap on a title contender to 5 points lose and it stretch's to 11.
Equally big game in Tallaght for both sides , Rovers need to start winning again and on the other hand if Dundalk win they will only be 8 points behind Rovers which is a very surmountable gap. Lose and its 14 points and thats that you would have to think.
Harps need a result their form has been terrible after a bright start, it looked like mid table but if Waterford pick up it could be play off place again for Harps.

First Division looks very open for positions 2 to 5 but i think a bit like last year the standard cant be great if the 7th place team in the league is only 5 points off second and a bang average Shels are 11 points clear....either that or the first division is at a far higher standard than normal with 5 or 6 premier standard teams and the best Shels team since Stuey Byrnes day is flying.

'Sligo' lost to Mayo over the weekend so hard to see them putting in much of a performance against Longford. :p

The first division has definitely improved in quality from last year. With Cork, Shels and Treaty replacing Drogs, Longford and Rovers II it was always likely to pan out with 5+ competitive teams.

Would be great for the rest of us if Shels could have a bit of a wobble sooner rather than later and come a little closer to the rest of the pack.

Our form has been woeful, coinciding with a horrible bit of luck with injury problems through the squad. Still, go on a run of form the other direction and we could just as easily climb back up to 5th or 6th. Really need to stop conceding such sloppy goals though. Drogheda will be an interesting test for us as we head into the transfer window. Could be a few more in and out of the club in the next month.

Great assist from Towell there! Enjoyed that just a little bit. Lets see how we kick on.

Bohs the better side here at the moment though there's nothing in it really. Jamie Lennon is a good player but despite that it's still very noticable how much we're missing Lewis in his current form. We look like we can't deal with the size of the pitch either, massive spaces between forward players and can't get much going.

The game in Tallaght is one club in disarray, relegation candidates v the champions...

Mannus kept the game alive, how Hoban ddnt finish that chance. Lovely weighted strike by Scales!

Stunning save by Mannus - and two crackers to go ahead no more than Rovers deserve on overall balance of play - but if Hoban had scored who knows - cracking game so far

Or if the ref gave the stonewall penalty shortly after we went in front.

One to write off this. Alfie Lewis was quite unlucky with his red last week but our discipline has otherwise been shocking this season, constantly accumulate soft yellows early in games and then throw wobblers when we're made to pay for it later on. Not ideal given how small the squad is regardless.

Looks like Galway going up this season alongside Shels. They're not great and the jury is still out on Caulfield, but full-time training in a part-time league is starting to kick in now and they've won four in a row. Always comfortable in the Bowl tonight.

incredibly comfortable for Rovers after going one down.
Dundalk offered nothing in the seconf half.
Big and badly needed win for rovers
Great to see Watts , Joey and Towell come in, hopefully this is the start of a better run

Entertaining game in Dalymount, the Desmond red card was the key moment. Beautiful goal from Wilson and we should have been out of sight 3-1 up and playing against 9 men, shocking unprofessionalism from Bermingham getting sent off like that. But we never do things the easy way and it was a nervy ending.

Also think Pats were a bit unlucky with that Talbot howler, looked well over the line to me.

But very happy with the 3 points after that disaster in Sligo.

Was at the game, first since March 2020.Yeah, the indiscipline sounded like it was being encouraged from the Pat's back room staff on the sideline..Very un Pat's like.

As a squad we are bare bones in proper quality, who will come in over the next few weeks will be interesting never mind who has been offloaded. Dundalk fans just not used to being starved of at least being in the mix of recent!!

That was the difference - first time in weeks we had most of our squad available - plus Towell- the luxury of being able to bring in Mandriou ,Watts and O’Brien is almost outrageous- the way we bossed the second half and slew of chances created over 90 mins showed we’re getting back to to our early season/2020 performance levels

Agree we offered nothing second half but at one nil up if it wasn't for a great Mannus save and a terrible decision not to give a stonewall peno and we would have been out of sight. For all Rovers possession in the first half it took two wonder strikes from defenders to get back in the game. Can't rely on that each week.

Don't know where we go from here.

A win over a club that has been a complete mess? DFC thorn in the side must have really smarted!

Something needs to be done with the standard of referees! Next time we play Rovers we could get a ridiculous call in our favour

Rovers were the better team and deserved to win

Looked a peno but would it have made a difference.. Nah. It just would have meant the game finished 3:2 to Rovers. 😁.

Have been told that in pats boez game pats scored a perfectly good goal but ball judged to have not crossed the line.

LOI referees eh! 😋

Dundalk have been a mess this year but at 1 nil up the "live table" had you 8 points behind with 17 games to go which would have been pretty incredible given the mess as you said.
Rovers play (admittedly with an injury crises) over the last 6 or 7 matches has opened the league up.
The turnaround means its out to 14 points and that looks to big a hill to climb.

Ball has to be fully over the line.Watched it a few timesl ooked maybe half over?
Lino was at the corner flag with the best view.
Mind you, the same lino missed Lyons getting punched in the face by the Pat's number 12

The peno decision was absolutely awful, which is completely in keeping with the truly horrific standard of refereeing in the league.

The far superior side won the game in the end.

Scales reaction when he hears the refs whistle thinking he’s given away a penalty

He was gutted and then totally confused. Ifs and buts, a 2 nil lead and there was a chance of an upset. Mannus showed how important he is in keeping Rovers in the game until they could reset at half time. Rovers may have an injury crisis, we have 2 fit centre halfs at the club. Sloggett going off injured gave Rovers a leg up in the game as he was doing his job well up to then. We dont have much off the bench really but arguably the clubs fault and we faded badly as Rovers improved. It was a good game, obviously not the result we wanted but again looking like a team that is progressing regardless of the shortage of quality outside a 1st 11 or so. Badly needed for Rovers too prior to Slovan next.

Harps in serious danger of getting sucked into the relegation battle. We were awful again last night. Doesn't help being down so many key players, but when you're not doing the basics right, and have no plan B, you have nobody to blame but yourself.

I was stewarding at our game no way was there 500. Minimum 350 more Sligo than Longford. We were very good second half but we are lacking somebody of the calibre of Greg Bolger. We are too quiet of a team. I didnt have the best view of Sligos peno but pal in Section O said it was 100% a peno.

I think Harps will be grand. Waterford was so poor on Friday night. Created barely any chances of note, and nothing worthy of making it into the five minute highlight video. Longford were unlucky not to get anything on Saturday, and they could well catch Waterford in the next few weeks.
I wouldn't even say we were brilliant, but we just dominated whilst not really having to try. Delighted with keeping a clean sheet, only the third time this season.

Brendy Eire from seeing us play against Waterford a few wks back we dont have vocal leaders on the pitch. We are way too quiet a side. We were bossed off the pitch by Waterford. Theres something lacking in our panel this season.

If you look at that game in Longford (a massive win for us), O'Reilly was man of the match and Molloy scored the winner from Mascoll's delivery. We've lost all three of those players in the last week. There are new players coming in, but the quality is questionable. We were very poor in Derry and will be stuck for players for a couple of weeks so Finn Harps in Ballybofey this week will be difficult. If we get at least a draw there and make some good signings (Eddie Nolan being one), then we can target catching Harps. If we don't, then we'll be doing well to stay above Longford.
