Waterford United utility player Kevin O'Brien has signed for Bray Wanderers. O'Brien had spent most of last season on the bench at the RSC, under former manager Alan Reynolds, and had sought a transfer last January.

Kevin O'Brien joined the Blues from Tottenham Hotspur in 1999. His father is former Waterford Chairman Ger O'Brien.

Excellent! Do you think he'll be in the squad for Friday?

I presume that because he has been a part of the Waterford squad this season that his fitness is up to speed and will go into the squad for Friday, but don't take that as a given !

The following reminder has just been circulated to the media from the League:

Second registration & transfer window for eircom league 2005 season

The Second Registration and Transfer Window for the 2005 Season runs
from tomorrow 1st July to the 31st July (both dates inclusive). This
means that a Registration Form or an envelope containing a Registration
Form must bear a registered post marked date not earlier than 1st July
nor later than 31st July.

This means that players signed on Registration Forms which are sent to
the eircom League office by registered post tomorrow, Friday 1st July
will NOT BE ELIGIBLE to play in matches over next weekend (1st - 3rd
July inclusive). Rule 19.7.12 of the eircom League Rules is the relevant
section.

Loan agreements can be processed in the normal way by fax as and from
tomorrow, Friday 1st July and such players will be eligible to play in
matches over this weekend (1st - 3rd July inclusive) providing the loan
agreement forms are in order and that the provisions of the Loan Rule
(Rule 19.21 of the eircom League Rules) have been complied with. Please
note that Clubs may loan out a total of five players in a season and can
have up to four players on inward loan at any one time.

Does that make it all clear?? Does it f**k!

He's a versatile player, but not particularly great in any position. He'll run all day but is a bit of a jibber in the tackle. He did score a cracker from a tight angle against Bray in the Carlisle Grounds in the FAI Cup last year, if anyone remembers. Had been with Waterford since coming back from Tottenham in 98 or 99. Played right full-back in his earlier days, then central midfield and was influential enough the season we were promoted. Played a lot at right midfield, mainly from the bench over last couple of seasons, but there was always a question of whether or not he deserved his place. Most from Waterford believe that him being a player with the club was the reason why McGeough and his predecessor Paul Power ultimately didn't survive. He was on a reportedly lucrative 3 year full-time contract when there was hardly a full-time player at the club and was finally paid off in February with this season left to run on the contract. He's still only about 25.

1 player out, possibly 4 (Tyrell, McGovern, Romanian dude, O'Brien), all in all good news I suppose though Wes will be sorely missed.
Do ye all reckon we're in a better position than we were?
