Ok, I heard that there was a lot of info in tonights echo re the takeover so I asked someone back home to email me the key info. What follows is what he lifted from the echo:

-------------------------------------------

LENNOX:"this is a very exciting day for me and for CCFC.I am excited about driving the club
forward towards the achievements of its full potential"

"my vision for CCFC is an organisation at the heart of the community in Cork offering the best of young irish football talent the opportunity to ply their trade here at home"

"working hard to enhance the clubs relationship with the local community in cork"

"my intention to surround myself with other people who are, first and foremost, fans of the club and i will make an anouncement in the near future"

"IN THE MEANTIME I WOULD BE DELIGHTED TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WHO FEELS THEY WOULD LIKE TO
PLAY SOME PART IN THESE EXCITING DEVELOPMENTS"

"I want to put structures in place that will guarantee Cork has a NL club for the foreseeable future"

ECHO: "his next move will be to convince city fans that he has the drive to bring the club to success"

LENNOX STATEMENT!!!
This is an exciting day for me and for Cork City F.C..I would like to commend the current board for the decision they have taken knowing that they have done so in the best long-term interests
of the club.I am excited about driving this club forward towards the achievement of its full potential. My vision for CCFC is for an organisation at the heart of the community here in cork offering the best of young irish football talent the opportunity to ply their trade here at home. I also look forward to working to enhance the clubs relationship with the local football community. In terms of managig the clubs affairs, its my intention to surround myself with people who are fans.I wil be making an announcement in that regard in the near future.I would be delighted to hear from anyone who feels that they would like some part to play in these
exciting developments for Cork soccer.

AMBITION:"to fill the 'Cross to the rafters on a regular basis"

IMMEDIATE GOALS:
*the setting up of a new board of directors
*organising a pre season cross channel tour to play leicester and1or2 other Midland clubs in friendlies
*A possible pre-season summer camp in boston area the following year,
*switch the clubs home games to friday nights under lights for the new season
*introduce a family enclosure at Turners Cross
*ensure the club is more family orientated nest year
*ensure season ticket holders are not 'messed around'when trying to find seats
*look at the european dimension more seriously and treat qualification as more than a one game bonus at the start of every new campaign

ECHO:"brian lennox has vowed to bring in new players for next season.and he is also committed to improving off-field structure that will hasten the move of the club becoming full time
professional outfit"

LENNOX:"our training facilities need to be improved as a priority,we need to improve our off-the-field structures and work on improving our image within the local community too"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If he gets half of this done, many of my dreams will have come true! :D Seriously, I think this is escellent news for city- club, players and fans.

Aw c'mon James, don't be an oul cynic... :p
Friday night footie sounds good, and his apparent intention to listen to Fans and anyone who really cares is a positive thing.
Things could be looking up, and maybe we should be taking a long term view here.... :)

At last a reason to buy the Echo.

Lots of plans anyway, and I reckon alot of people will be needed if they are to come to fruition. Looks like we might have a busy 'off-seaon' after all.

Ah c'mon Janmes....we are here shouting for change every day......lets support this, at least we know what he wants to achieve...the previous board, were terrible in communicating, this could be a real step in the right direction.....now whos up for Leicester?

James

...."Fans say the club must buy in English players."

Now I'm assuming that this is some "journalism" on the part of the Echo. Just makes me wonder about the rest of the article and the depth of the research.

I don't know what the future will hold, but one thing that any new setup needs is time and this is something that changes in CCFC have not been given in the past. It will take a few seasons to catch up with the more 'professional' clubs (I no longer include Postaman Pats in this).

I've dealt with Brian Lennox when I was trying to get photos & video footage for city website. I had absolutely no problems with him whatsoever.

It is a good day for City, hopefully things will change for the better.

James

what city website is this citymark?

is brian lennox our very own jack walker or is just michael knighton in disguise. we´ll see.

however i do find it ironic that the persons who were shouting for sack the board are those who now blindly welcome the accession of brain lennox. let´s not forget that brian (and he is a sound bloke) is a board member for years.

furthermore what are his concrete plans and where does he plan to raise the cash needed for all this ? like james i wouldn't be overly or blindly optimistic just yet.

i think the other board mebers resigned because of the dire finiancial state of the club. brian lennox is taking over the club at atime of severe weakness.

exactly... dalo.. talk is cheap.. remember the greg cantillon debacle with increased openness and communication.. blah blah blah

the only way you know something has changed with cork city football club is when u see it for yourself

hence i still wont beleive we have floodlights in the cross until i come home and see thme myself.. i know what young joseph is capable of with photoshop :D .. your pics prove nothing :D

intelligent comment though dalo..he's gona have to raise some serious cash.. if he wants to do all this

one easy way to fill the Cross to the rafters is to bring in a machine that will spread the smell of lennox's chips around the Cross.
To be honest lads, I'm hungry just reading this.

i know what you mean. I think I will give the old running a miss tonightand head straight to alec's chipper in beaumont :)

i hate to drag up bad memories but Brian's statement and tone reminds one of pat o'donovan. shiver

I'm a natural cynic in case no one noticed but some of the immeadiate goals sound encouraging especially since they're not pie (no pun intended :D ) in the sky & are quiet easy to implement.

If I had anything to say to Mr. Lennox it would be to start with the easy changes first.

IMMEDIATE GOALS:
*switch the clubs home games to friday nights under lights for the new season
*introduce a family enclosure at Turners Cross
*ensure the club is more family orientated nest year
*ensure season ticket holders are not 'messed around'when trying to find seats

I'm not sure why a training camp in boston next year is an immeadiate goal?

I would never say never to foreign players but realistically they will only come over to Ireland if they have no offers in their own country so odds are they not going to be the best. Saying that every now & then a Kevin Hunt or Dave Hill emerges.

BTW does anyone know if Lennox sought to control the club or did all the other Directors just leave? i.e. is he in control by default?

I thought you were coming home soon ..... you'll miss the whole thing

James

aye i am indeed home soon face, but i stilll think its like an awesome idea, they'll get soem good matches out here against some pretty good pub sides and then night-life is good, bars stay open late (but not too late) its the perfect set up for any athlete :D

and a trip back out here to see city play next pre-season seems like a good idea now anyway. but i reckon we may be seeing price hikes on the potatoe pie and salad burger to pay for it..

*sigh*

Just got the echo. Read the front page - delighted! Read the back page - dreaming! Read P37 - back to reality.

I know we needed a more enthusiastic owner and I'm completly in favour of the takeover but I found one paragraph in the echo that kinda scares me:

"Lennox also pledged to bring in some new players for next season and team boss Liam Murphy, who has a two-year contract with the club, is already working on that project"

That to me means:
1) Liam Murphy will still be here next season.
2) He can go and find a great hoofer from England.
3) New strike partner for Noel!!!

Murphy still being here still leaves all the same problems we moan about before the take-over.

Nice one Lennox though!!!

This news has to be welcomed by all City fans. Turning things around is a tall order, but he should be well used to that from a Saturday night on Barracks St!

I'm especially pleased to see that his main ambition is to fill the Cross again.

Best of look Brian, we're all behind you

About getting good players from England, I know of a few - Joe Gamble, Roy O' Brien, Damian Delaney :D

Might this have any effect on Ollie staying or going?

Not on it's own, but if a good crowd turns up on Sunday and let Ollie know that he's needed.... it might help.

id say he should get the chipper mobile and get rid of the other ones outside the ground ! an easy way to earn cash for the club :D

Éanna

hopefully what he means is that they will look for dave hills, kevin hunts, joe gamble, BBmurphys, leon mcsweeneys etc in England. Ok, it's a pity he hasn't given Murphy the boot, but hopefully that will sort itself out. I'm never gonna change my stance on MUrphy, but Lennox has just started and deserves a chance- he needs our support. Maybe the gunther thing should be left on the back burner until Lennox has sorted himself and the club out- til the start of pre-season maybe?
