Only got Thursday and Friday off so going to fly Ryanair to Cardiff Thursday morning and fly back Saturday.Around €28.00 return. Get a train to Newtown I guess, a couple of ones going from Cardiff, I reckon it's more than 20 miles from Carmarthen though, there's a few Newtowns, the one we want is in Powys I believe, in Mid-Wales.

We arrive in Cardiif around 10.30, think there's a train around 13.30 or so. Could take around four hours. Check out www.traveline.cymru.org should be more info there

Just spoke to Newtown Tourist office, apparently it's around a 2 and a half hour drive from Newtown to Carmarthen and Cardiff. MAkes it aukward for hitting last orders in either post match!!

That train journey looks a right ball ache tbh, my thinking is kinda going back to ferry from Dun Laoghaire and driving it down to Newtown and staying there for a couple of nights. Ferry and Drive would be less time than the train journey from Cardiff....

As far as i am aware the price is all inclusive. Please also be aware that even though Carmarthen and newtown are ok sized towns there may only be 3 pubs in each. This is a common problem outside of Ireland where towns with a population of 8,000 don't have 30 pubs and a few nite clubs so be prepared.
I don't see why we can't arrive sometime on the Wednesday,go on the batter.
Leave for the match early on the Thursday,go on the batter then go to match and go back on the batter.
Get up early friday,go on the batter and come home saturday morn. All will be sorted this evening anyway.

Can't be right Murph - you sure you got the right 'Newtown' ? Wales if full of the places.

Do a google search for 'Newton AFC, Wales, and you'll see it 'a hell of a lot closer to Carmarthen on a map than 2 and a half hours.... . It's the same journey time from London to both places !

Think it was the right place I'm afraid Newtown in Powys. Club website says it's 2.5 hours from Cardiff as well.

Common problem in Ireland too - Tallaght population over 100,000, number of pubs 3...

I'm not all that interested in a city break in Cardiff tbh, but will wait and see what the story is from the meeting tonight. Certainly in it's current form it's way too early (and long) for me. Particularly as I'd hope to be getting another trip ;)

wouldn't be surprised if we had two options to choose from.
In fairness I can't expect that to happen. It's obvious who is getting the organisation going on this but I would expect the supporters club to hold a meeting on this and take some suggestions at least.

Do they intend on doing anything? Martinho...?

Newtown is a lot closer to Liverpool and Birmingham(1 Hr 45) than it is to Cardiff(2Hr 30).

Just to answer my own question:

The Official Supporters Club are flying via Cardiff to the game, leaving on Wednesday July 27th and returning on either Friday 29th or Saturday 30th.

This or something close to it sounds like the best option to me. Head off Wednesday morning, then you could have Wed evening in Carmarthan. 7.30 k.o gives you loads of time to make it to Newtown for the game and Thursday night. Then friday, back to Cardiff for Friday night. Home Saturday or Sunday depending on your pocket or the result!

There`s some of us coming over for the match arriving on the day before. What`s in Longford and do any of you fancy a pint? Give us a time and pub and we`ll meet you there.

Is the title of this thread supposed to be prophetic?
