Don't wash it, ever! I've still got mine from Giants Stadium in 94, haven't washed it or worn it since. it was 95 degrees that day as well.... I think its developed a life of its own at this stage :D

buy a 100% wool or cotton one (one of those retro ones) and you won't sweat as much as you do in the official synthetic version, hence the need to wash it every time after a match. If you are playing footie, wool and cotton are much better too .. and you don't get that nipple rash thing you do with some jerseys.

I can't believe this thread has got three replies already. People will talk about anything here! :p

This is indeed serious stuff and it is only to right that fans share and pass on advice on subjects like this.

During the World cup in Japan/Korea I brought with me this travel washing stuff for my many Madonna stlye costume changes for when I needed a change of Ireland top to meet the occasion or indeed circumstance, washed them in the bath in a warm but not too hot temp, then just hang them up let them dry and hey back on and out on the town looking as fly and funky as ever.

mine goes through the wash no bother.

BTW, any advise other then that mentioned above for avoiding the nipple rash? It's a killer.

whats the best way to do it??

Follow the care instructions on the label.
Turn it inside out.
Wash at 40C on a short cycle.
DO NOT tumble dry.
If you hang it up, it will dry in no time.

I actually put mine in with a white wash because there's no colour that could run and there's no danger of colour from another garment destroying it.

a bit of vaseline on the ould nipples does the trick. But who's got vaseline when you need it .. er .. I don't like where this sentence is going :o

In all fairness, how much would it **** with your head to stop half way through doing this and wondering how did you end up in that situation...

Never iron it. My ma got at mine one day, wrecked it. Big lines all over the thing. (same goes for GAA tops, btw)

Used to be good though the ironing thing to get the sponsor off the jersey .. remembering peeling off OPEL with delight. Now its impossible to get that Eircom yoke off... grateful and all that we are for their sponsorship of Irish football

I destroyed my world cup jersey by ironing it, so I'm just happy to wash the current one and let it dry

Spot on the ball as usual Peadar. I've got rakes of tops, Irish shirts, I've evn got the two Mexican 1998 shirts, the Haiti shirt etc etc and I always wash them at 40 degrees, inside out and, very important hang them - that keeps the stretch and helps avoid shrinking. NEVER tumble dry. NEVER.

By the way, ALWAYS put in a limestone descaler tablet with yer wash and check the filter of your washing machine regularly to remove threads, cloth fibres etc - you'll have both tops and machine for eons then.

For students/people in flats, here's a good tip. Why not invest in a something like an express rotisserie. You can cook your meats and it gets rid of a lot of fat but also the steam from it will cook a variety of vegetables in the trays located on top of the device. Steam cooking vegetables is the best way for obvious reasons. The beauty of it? You set a timer and all the food is cooked while you're in the pub or watching footie, making out or playing music etc etc. NO watching the cooker.

Now, what more can I do for you lot??? No need to thank me. LOL :D

It might be an idea to open a cooking tips thread 'cos I'm worried about a lot of you Footiepersons eating habits - all I read about is chips, burgers etc. in various posts. Tut Tut.

Before I forget, it's an absolute fact that blokes who invite a bird around to their flat for a good quality home cooked meal are guaranteed a succesion of very impressed totty from then on. Word will spread y'know. The fellas night look like the back of a bus but the ladies really like a bloke who can cook, clean and make his own dresses as well. LOL :D

....strange difference of opinion-i'd be well annoyed if the Eircom came off mine-it's part of the kit! If it came off mine i'd feel my shirt was ruined-i'd never do it deliberatley!!! :D :D

What? Why? Other countries don't have sponsors names emblazened across them, why should we? Hate the eircom logo (cool and all as I think it is).
