Robbery and Kidnapping at the Carlisle Grounds Bray

On Saturday 21st of May, an attempted robbery was made on Bray Wanders Football Club. Just before 7.30am the Bray Wanderers Kit Man arrived at the grounds.

Having navigated his van into the grounds, the "Kit man", as he is known, set about his morning chores. Entering the washroom, he loaded the first of several washes. After setting the machines in motion he decided to make use of the rest of his spare time by washing his Black Ford Transit Van.

Around five minutes past eight, a second member of staff arrived at the grounds and shortly afterwards set about mowing and rolling the pitch.

Around a quarter past nine, having unloaded a wash, the Kit Man made his way from the wash room towards the store room. Walking past his van he turned the corner to be confronted by two men in balaclavas. One was holding a gun, which he pushed straight into the terrified victim’s stomach. The men demanded the previous night's takings and instructed him to take them to the Office.

Explaining that no money is ever left on the grounds overnight and that the office was locked anyway, the men tried to force open the door. Failing to do so one decided to leave and ran away towards a side entrance. The gunman remained and insisted on taking the van and forced the Kit Man to drive him.

Around this time the grounds man noticed some activity but assumed it was somebody picking up their bike from the previous night. The Gunman ordered the victim to drive his van out of the ground but on the way out they came upon another member of the Wanderer’s staff arriving on foot. The gunman immediately squatted down and instructed the man not to stop. Expecting to have a chat, the member of staff stepped up on the grass but was taken aback when waved aside by the Kit Man.

It was now about twenty-past nine as the terrified Kit Man drove his van out onto Quinnsboro Road. The gunman's accomplice, who was the taller of the two, was waiting outside the Bowling Alley. He immediately jumped in and the men instructed the Kit Man to take a right onto Seymour Road. At the end of that road they came to a "T" junction and turned left into Seapoint Road.

Noticing that a bike to be collected was still in the grounds and wondering why the Kit Man was so erratic, the member of staff decided to call him. Fearing for his life the victim immediately dismissed this call creating even greater confusion to the member of staff, who phoned him again. The Kit Man didn’t answer this call as he approached Main Street, Bray, alongside The Royal Hotel. Here he was instructed to take a right followed by a left into Lower Dargle Road. He drove for a distance past the People's Park on his left until he eventually came to The Dargle Tavern. Here, he was instructed to take a left into the Upper Dargle Road until he reached the Egan Shopping Centre. The two men insisted they be dropped off here telling the man to drive on, which he did.

We would like you help in trying to track down these two men.

Were you in or around this area, The Egan Shopping Centre on Dargle Road on Saturday 21st of May. Did you notice anything suspicious or out of the ordinary along the route that the van took?

The man with the gun is described as 5’10” and medium build. He was wearing a balaclava and a dark top. The second man was 6 foot tall and quite thin. He was in his early to mid twenties. He wore blue jeans and a blue hoody. He also had a scarf wrapped around his face.
