When you hire a pub league manager, you shouldn't be surprised when they play pub league football. Who does this guy think we are, Barcelona? Tapping the ball around the middle of the park does nothing but invite the opposition to press us into making mistakes.

The change of formation is suiting them more than us

We’re having a little better spell now. Desperately need to take a chance if it comes. Collins nearly turning into Ronnie Whelan for a second!

Steve Staunton had a better tactical mind for football than this clown. He puts Shane Long on about seventy-four minutes too late.

I was not expecting to see an overhead kick in this game.

Considering the opposition this is honestly one if the worst performances by an Irish team I've ever witnessed, and I'm old.
I feel sorry for Bazuna making his competitive debut surrounded by dog€h1t players like these.

The really hard thing is, I don’t think another style or manager or selection produces a lot different. It’s the same type of struggle we’ve had against lower ranked teams more or less since Robbie Keane retired. We just don’t score goals.

San Marino away.

But in general, yeah.

But also this -

Yeah, the Gibraltar games under McCarthy weren't all that different really, only we managed to win them in the end. Here it looks like we're waiting for a Luxembourg error for the win.

Full credit to Luxembourg for the win, they deserved it. What a goal from this Rodrigues fella, he's worked his backside off all match long.

This is the end I think. Kenny will be kept on but he'll be a caretaker by any other name until they find someone else.

What a mess.

I blame Long to an extent for that. First a stupid handball for no apparent reason and very next ball in around him gives away the stupid free that lets them get back up the pitch. They’ve done what we didn’t and put the ball in the net from one of very few chances in the match.

The good news for Stephen Kenny is there'll be a job going soon back at dundalk, so at least there's that. I suppose.

Leaving your most experienced players out of the team in an absolute must win match is a sackable crime. What was this guy thinking?

Exactly my feelings. This is as disappointed I have felt as a supporter, and it's not this result, it's how a LOI manager with a new philosophy for the team is failing so completely. We're going to be playing hoofball forever. It's all we're good for.

I’m gutted about the result. No doubt it’s as bad as it gets. The only way from rock bottom is up. I think we all knew it was going to be difficult with the weakness of the squad, but that’s probably beyond what anyone expected.

I think it’s still worth sticking with the overhaul of the team and the style. Qualifying was never likely anyway. Now it’s basically impossible.

Unless the players down tools completely on Kenny it can be turned around, but it’s a very long and painful path.

its over for kenny and it makes me sad.

i think its gone the way most of us suspected for a while now. nothing smart about any of our play at all. i think those defending kenny were doing so more in hope than any sort of confidence if there is honesty. never felt sadder about the irish team ever.... stan included

You think the reason we lost to Luxembourg at home was because we didn't have Jeff on? Really?

Shocking result, it is the worst in my living memory. And poor performance. Luxembourg were a bad team by anyone’s standards (except ours).

But as I’ve said before, I’ve already written off 2022 World Cup hopes. We have the worst squad since the early 1980s. We have no money. I’m still happy to give Kenny until 2024 to try to develop things. The rest of the campaign can be spent developing the squad. Goodbye to Brady, Randolph, Long, and Clark (has never lost the clumsy and rash attributes that plagued his English under 19 career). Time to blood in the youngsters and see who make it.

Just a thought. Kevin Keegan won the respect of a lot of people when he fell on his sword in the tunnel after the game that time.

I'd like Brian Kerr to take the team for Qatar next week please.

I think in the cold light of day, that's probably a very rational post. It mayn't be the best thing for us on the pitch, but I think it's the best for the FAI overall.

I'm not entirely sure if it's what I want to happen - I have to admit my confidence in Kenny is one step forward after Serbia and three steps back after today - but unfortunately Delaney has ****ed us over in so many ways that it may be the best for the FAI.

Stapleton, O'Leary, Brady. Done out of a World Cup a bent referee.

This is the worst squad since the early 70s.

Yeah this is gutting, all over before it ever began, you always get a sense when an Irish manager is done for and this is it now, he’s gone.Back to lumping it forward looking for an equaliser for the next twenty years I suppose.

The squad of the early 80s was our best ever IMO, better that the team Jack inherited a few years later
